Hi. Could you tell me if this is the same process for unconditional offer holders (have taken my A levels and am taking a gap year). Thank you.

Hi buzz212
Congrats on your offer

The process for you starts slightly earlier. If you have firmly accepted your unconditional offer, you'll be able to apply for University accommodation from mid-May, you'll receive an email from the Student Accommodation Centre from mid April telling you everything you need to know.

Hope this helps and enjoy your gap year

I was wondering is there a deposit fee when booking accommodation? And how likely is it you get your first choice with your halls accommodation if it's your firm choice and you apply before the deadline?
Thank you

Hi Carlla

You have to pay a room bond when you get allocated your accommodation - this will be at the time your results come out.
You may get your first choice, but it's not guaranteed. What we do guarantee is that you get a room in halls.
You can find everything you need to know here: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/services/campus-living/accommodation/howtoapplyforyourroom/firstyearundergraduatestudent/

Hope this helps

Hi, I was wondering if the maintenance costs are paid weekly like many other Universities?
Thank You

Hi criddle99
Not sure I understand your question - maintenance loans are paid by the Government - so out of our hands on when they are paid.
I believe its paid in to your bank at the start of term. More info here https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/new-fulltime-students

If you're referring to something else, let me know and I'll find out for you.

As a student from Loughborough, what are the general stereotypes and opinions about different accommodation?

Hi evepark12

As the students change every year - the feel of each hall is different every year, so general stereotypes don't really work from one year to the next.
However, the accommodation people do always make sure there is someone on your floor on a similar course/interests to you so you won't be completely surrounded solely english students when you are on a industrial design course - there will be a mix of all sorts of people.

We do have some videos by students about the different halls which you might find interesting here http://www.lboro.ac.uk/services/campus-living/accommodation/halls/videos/ but I think the most important thing to consider when choosing your accommodation is what you can afford and what you want from your room.

Hope this helps

Hi Vicky/Amy,

I've seen on the t&cs that boyfriends/girlfriends aren't allowed to visit/stay overnight in accommodation, however from current students I've heard that they can stay?

Hi hungrygal33

As you can appreciate - we can only give you the official line on this one
However, you can have people stay over.
This is the bit you want to read:

Not to invite any visitor to stay overnight in the Premises without the prior written consent of the University (such consent not to be unreasonably withheld). Breach of this term may also be in breach of the University’s Health and Safety Regulations.

So you will need to inform your hall warden if you are having someone come over to stay and get their consent - which isn't a difficult thing to do. It's really all about health and safety, fire regs and insurance.

I don't know how strictly this is enforced - but this is what you should be doing

I have a conditional offer to study Geography and management this fall, I want to know what self catered halls are closest to my accommodation and if i choose to stay in a studio apartment, will this reduce my chances of socializing with people in the same hall?

Hi _shazxxx

Congrats on your offer

Falk-Egg will probably be the closest self-catered hall although doesn't have studio flats. None are very far away especially with the free campus shuttle bus which runs every few minutes.
The self catered halls with studio flats are Harry French, William Morris and The Holt.

If you are in a studio flat - it would be up to you to make the effort to socialise - which suits some people and not others. If you share a kitchen and common areas you'll naturally meet people if you see what I mean.

Hope that helps

I will be studying Media and Communications in September and I'm wondering where the best place to say in would be. I want my own room, own hand wash basin, own bathroom and a shared kitchen. Which would you reccommend?

Hi Lorrainealiyah

Congrats on your offer!

First thing to decide is if you want catered or self-catered to be honest and then narrow down from there.
However here's a list of accommodation that offer en-suite rooms:

Catered:
Cayley
David Coollette
Faraday
Royce
Rutherford
Elvyn Richards

Self-catered:
Rigg-Rut
Robert Bakewell
Butler Court
William Morris
The Holt

Have a look at www.lboro.ac.uk/accommodation for more info and if you've got any more questions just ask

I have received an unconditional offer and have firmed my place at Loughborough ready to study politics in September. Ideally, I would like to stay in an en-suite, self catered room.

When applying for accommodation - do you select a location or a type of accommodation? Also - based on my course, where would be the best halls to choose?

Thank you! (sorry if you've already answered this and i've missed the response).

Hi LewRa1

Congrats on your unconditional offer - we'll be seeing you in September then!

Because you have an unconditional offer (so we know that you're coming) it's slightly different for you in that you can reserve your room from the end of this month.

Your en-suite self catered choices are:
Self-catered:
Rigg-Rut
Robert Bakewell
Butler Court
William Morris
The Holt

As your lectures will be in the middle of campus really you've got the choice of any of them. William Morris and The Holt are just off campus, Butler Court is at the bottom end of campus and Robert Bakewell and Rigg-Rut are in the student village and are close to the library so they all have their pros and cons.

Have a look on the website www.lboro.ac.uk/accommodation - might give you a bit more info to help you make your mind up

Hi Vicky and Amy

I have reserved my room for September and just have a question. On my confirmation e-mail it says that I have to pay my room bond within 8 days of receiving my University Student Registration number - is this my Ucas number which is quoted on the e-mail or do I wait until I am sent another number. Just a bit confused and I do not want to loose my room.

Thank you

Hey buzz212

How exciting

Your University Student ID number is usually issued around 6 weeks before you start (it isn't your UCAS number). You should receive an email then that will confirm your accommodation offer and how to accept it - at that point you'll be able to pay your room bond.

If you have any issues you can contact the accommodation centre directly on [email protected].

Hope this helps!
