Now its the wait that is killing me, i have no idea if i will get the offer i really am hoping to get the offer. I think it went well, i tried to stay confident, once i left the interview on my way home i felt good and then it gradually started to change from being good to regretting what i answered and how i could have said things differently. I guess we all can improve.

@BrightSmile_ [s]smile[/s] and @KateVincentx UPDATE!!! AS OF 17:34PM 13/02/2017 I was made an unconditional offer for London South Bank University!!! (Adult Nursing here I come) I am so happy not even words can explain how I feel right now!!!

Also Unsuccessful with the University of Essex after application and scanned copies of my certificates and a second reference!!!

Hi,

I just got an offer to do pgdip Children's nursng at LSBU. It's my first offer so am a bit unsure what to do. Could anyone tell me why they would choose LSBU say over Kings, City and Kingston? Really interested in other people's views.

Hi @iheartjf Well I don't really have any facts as to why I would choose LSBU over other universities such as King's. I feel LSBU has a great nursing school with top of the art facilities, they have 2 campuses to choose from (Southwark and Havering and it's connected to the best hospitals in London. LSBU has always been my first choice and will always remain, it's local to where I live as well and my placements are not too far and the chances of being employed in my local community are higher and it wouldn't be too much of a commute for me and this is a plus. I haven't started the course at LSBU so I can't be too specific but I definitely think LSBU is a great fit for me. If you do children's nursing you would go to GOSH, that's amazing that is a plus.

I would advise you to do some form of research if you haven't already done so, and look at the course content in detail and find out what you can expect in first second and third year. Look at the pros and cons, I am sorry I can't give a better answer when choosing universities it has to be the right one for you. What is your first choice? Is there accommodation on campus or nearby at competitive and affordable prices? What are the university facilities like, what are the students who are currently doing the course saying? How far is the commute from where you live if you choose to commute every day, will you make it to 7 am starts and night shifts if you live far away from the university relying on driving or public transport? Where is your heart set on going? We all want to go to a university with a great reputation and great facilities within the university and in the local area? Going to open days will help with your decision.

I wouldn't make any decisions until I've been through the process, so wait until your invited to interviews or selection tests and see where they go, once you have all your responses then make your decision unless you really want to go to LSBU, surely if LSBU is one of your choices you wouldn't mind going there? Correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry. I could not be more help hopefully @BrightSmile_ [s]smile[/s] can comment and provide a better answer in response to your question.

Hi,

I am doing the 2 year accelerated Children's nursing course and my commute will be 1 hour 40 minutes each way. I have a family so staying in London is not an option for me.

There are few places that do the fast track course and the nearest place was London for me so in regards to my choices I was pretty limited.

I guess what I would like to know is - does it really matter where you study once you are looking for a job? Are prospective employers still quite snobby - i.e. if its a Russell Group University or not. Where the University is ranked. Or should I be looking at who my Host trust will be - potentially Evelina/ GOSH which is who i requested. I am not too sure what my priorities should be ....

@iheartjf Most people say it doesn't matter which university you go to because at the end of the day you still get the same degree and professional registration. Once your a children's nurse and you have your degree, registration, and references to support that, you're absolutely fine, as long as you can do the job to a high standard what else do you need. The thing is every university will have links to different trusts such as LSBU they are linked to specialists hospitals such as GOSH and UCLH, Guys and St Thomas and more this already is so amazing that students are allowed to practice in these high dependency hospitals. For some people practicing in their ideal hospital specialising in children's nursing is what they want because the chances of being employed by the same hospital are greater, only because the university
has links with these trusts and after students qualify the employment rate is greater.

The commute is rather long and you need to be near to home especially as you have a family, that's was my priority because i have a family too! You need to look at the timetable for the course if you can or ask students already doing the course for their opinion because as this is something you really want to do it has to be realistic for you. Especially with 50% theory and 50% practice, it's gonna be hard. If you really want to go to LSBU you need to get a good support network, family, friends, childminders if need be, babysitter, emergency support if something goes wrong. For me personally, I had to choose a university that's close to home especially being a single parent, I had no choice, but options more than 3 hours away.

Also, I didn't look at the university ranking, I looked at the location of the campus and the placement areas and finally the facilities of the school and found out what their students thought of the university and course. Looking at LSBU, it's a popular university and campus because of the placement opportunities this is a bonus!!!

What other options do you have? What do you think your gonna do?

Hi,

Well I think I will see if I get an offer from Kings too. LSBU and Kings are the closest to me ( and yes that's still an hour and forty minutes each way but I don't have a choice!).

I signed up to the LSBU APL workshop in any case and started on the Life Science Workbook as I literally am starting from scratch learning about human anatomy and physiology.

Are you doing pgdip or the Bsc course?

Hi guys,
I just submitted my UCAS application i think last week? LSB is my first choice as i know a couple of people that study adult nursing and they are loving it there! (also close to home for me).

I have also applied to Greenwich and Anglia Ruskin and had a thank you email from them but nothing at all from LSBU, Is that normal?x

Did you apply with A levels or an Access course by any chance, also since you have applied late it may take longer, any reason why you applied outside the UCAS deadline?

LSBU is my first choice too for Adult Nursing and I also applied to Anglia Ruskin and was unsuccessful sadly :frown:

I knew there was a deadline in January but i was still waiting for my reference so unable to send off my application, I hope it wont have too much of an effect on my application as i hear some other people also applied late or are still applying.

I didn't do A levels or an access course , i have a level 3 and level 3 extended diploma in childcare and also NVQ Level 2 in health and social care and have had previous similar experience as i was a home carer for a year and a half which i have just left recently.

I hope i at least manage to get to interview as nursing is something i have been thinking about for a while now and the more i wait. The more i want to do it.
I am applying for September 2017 entry.
