UCL vs Birmingham Chemical Engineering 2017

I was wondering if UCL have started to give out offers for Chem eng and if they interview as well as how lenient they are with grades

I got my offer few days ago with quite a surprising grades of AAA and I had no interview which is also surprising but thats me i guess!

Can I ask what you got for your AS/A2 grades. Am applying with a levels (but Iam applying as a late applicant). Congrats with the offer by the way.

Im a retake and im in my gap year right now so first time in AS i got BBBD and then after retaking i got AAB. For A2 i got BBC but im retaking those and im predicted A*A*A. I study maths chemistry and physics

Thanks for the info, am slightly similar in case. My only concern is that I have a B in chemistry

are you retaking chemistry? because i dont think UCL will accept a B without retake.

Id go Birmingham, heard their Chem eng department is really good (been to open day). And it's newly done up. But I know for a fact they want A*AA and they're not lenient at all. I called them up during clearing last yr with A*A*ABA(as) and said not good enough. They wanted Chem to A (even tho I was 5marks off lol).

But wit UCL I guess you get a really good reputable university.

The thing is would you look at reputation of department, or the reputation of the university? As UCL is global and is 7th in the QS world rankings, however birmingham are 4th for chem eng in UK. My belief is that league tables change each year, but if you take away the league tables - UCL will still always have its reputation. What you reckon fam

Am currently a studying at imperial. I applied for Chem eng (but studying something else-it's a long story). My grades are A* math, A* Bio, A F maths, B Chem, A physics (AS).

Basically reapplying but not retaking chemistry because it's long.

I applied a week ago (I contacted the admis tutor and said he will check out my case). Am hoping that me doing some chemistry at imperial will levy my B in chemistry.

Also can I ask how long did you wait to get a response?

UCL will take you most likely because of your A*'s but call up maybe to make sure

No that's a really good point. There is so many pros and cons with those 2 unis for Chem eng. I reckon if you want to be a really good chemical engineer you go UoB. But if you want a good job you go UCL (even tho their job prospects are like 80%).

Being in Imperial, I've found out for most of the time (unless you're applying for a specialist job) employers don't really care about your degree disciplinary. It's more important that you go to a good university.

But then again UoB's job prospects are above 90% with an average starting salary of 27k.

TBH I just want to get into UCL really anxious, once I get an offer am partying for like a week (touchwood).

I'm from Birmingham as well so would probably want to move out, but im not using the fact of moving out as a basis of firming UCL, as i want to have a good future as well ygm. For chem eng does it matter if you go to UoB or UCL, are you equally as likely to be employed as a chemical engineer?
