Just got rejected for chemistry with medicinal chemistry, I am EU. I am going to study in Germany now, I don't quite know what to do because I really was hoping for St Andrews.

Nevertheless, good luck to all of you!

:frown: I realised I unwatched the thread for some reason and clicked on it hoping that it was good news!

So sorry :frown: :hugs:

Yeah it sucks :/ especially as I read back at all the rejections that happened recently :frown: all of you waited for so long for a negative response. :cry2:

:hugs: hope you find somewhere that you enjoy in Germany or reapply next year

Just wanted to offer my commiserations to you as well..

I got rejected about 4 weeks ago with predicted A*A*AA (for Maths which is an AAA course!!) and I'm still pretty bitter about it tbh. Do you reckon they made a mistake with our applications lol?

This is worrying :frown: I was planning on reapplying next year. If you already had A*A*A*A and they claim that most offer holders had predicted higher asking rates, what kind of applicants are they getting this year?!

Well my daughter is predicted 4 A* and got a rejection for maths. She has superb
GCSE results and v strong extra curric (inc maths things). But she was classed as
EU (despite only ever going to school in England) and there are far fewer places for scottish/EU students (as St A gets fined if they exceed a certain number) Upon
querying it, she was told that although she was very strong, there were stronger
candidates!!
I just can't believe that. She is considering reapplying next year (not always a
great idea for maths) but i can't see how she would be in a better position next
year really.
My Daughter and i went to St Andrews University to do the 'talk and tour' which lasted 2 hours.
The admissions officer told us that they put a huge emphasis on the personal statement, so maybe this is what let your Daughter down?
Just a thought.

At the end of the day it is all about who else applies and in the end she was probably just unlucky. Imagine if you're an admissions tutor and you get all these applications with top grades and strong extra-curriculars, who do you pick? I certainly don't envy them. I know it is hard to consider other unis when you're set on one but a few years down the line it won't look so one sided. I'm sure there are many other Universities she can thrive in and develop as a young adult while still getting a great maths education. As for the job market, there isn't really any difference between the top 20ish Unis except for more specialist courses like PPE or something.
I have not received a reply to my application. I was wondering if I should call St Andrews. :/

I believe their plan is to have all offers/rejections for people who applied through UCAS sent out by end of tomorrow, so I wouldn't call until next week - you'll just be slowing them down if you call today.
How long after you firm on UCAS to get the email from registry with next steps?
I'm trying to apply for accommodation it don't have the email with my ID number. Should I email them to ask? I only firmed St. Andrews on Friday though

Your ID number can be found in the portal and the e-mail they sent you confirming your offer.
I got an unconditional for IR and Modern Languages the other day then rejected for English within 24 hours, bit weary though as I recently dropped History and will have to tell them this :///

It would be a bit weird of them to rescind an offer after they gave it, especially if it's unconditional.

Don't feel bad about the English rejection, I think it's generally a policy that they only give you one offer, and if you want to take English you can still pick it up as an extra module if you have enough space in your schedule!
Well, I'm heading up to St. Andrew's for the visiting day ...

It's 5:50. ... I hate long-distance travel.

*look out hotel window* Yep. Definitely is.
How long after firming on UCAS should it take to get Entrant email from St. Andrews?

It takes a while apparently. A current first year told me that it took about 3 weeks to get hers.

Thank you! That is very reassuring. I was starting to think we missed a step.
