A level chemistry coupling reactions

I am revising formation of azo dyes using a coupling reaction and just wondered what a 'coupling reaction' and 'coupling agent' actually are? In general chemistry I mean!
Thanks 🙂🙂

OK. Azo dyes was taken of OCR A this spec but is still on OCR B.

A coupling reaction simply means two things coming together to form a new substance by chemical bonding. The coupling agent (the diazonium ion in this case) is the reactive species that has to be formed for coupling to be able to take place.

Are you sure? I thought the coupling AGENT was the other molecule e.g. Phenol?
