And this is why you don't take Gayle out the team... you never know when he'll fire!
Great innings

And that catch by McCullum! Brilliant. Unlucky for him
Both my team losing Gujarat and Punjab. Tough days.
Awesome stuff from Gayle. The stats for Gayle are just mind-boggling: 2550 is the difference in aggregate between him and the next-highest in the T20s - B-Mac is in second place with an aggregate of 7524. To put that aggregate difference in perspective, the difference between the aggregates of McCullum and the 20th-ranked Mahela Jayawardene is only 2069. Gayle has struck 743 sixes, while Kieron Pollard is second with 459. 75% of Gayle's T20 runs have come in boundaries - he has hit 769 fours and 743 sixes. Among batsmen with at least 4000 T20 runs, the next-best percentage is Virender Sehwag's 69.7.

He has played for 11 T20 sides, and chalked up a whopping 15 T20 hundreds between 2011 and 2015 from 174 innings, which is an average of 11.6 innings per hundred. His strike-rate is 149.56, only bettered by Pollard, who has a strike rate of 151.72. And among batsmen with 4000-plus runs, only two batsmen have a higher dot percentage: Dwayne Smith (46.5), and Lendl Simmons (45.8).

Gujarat are seventh having lost to Mumbai Indians by six wickets and Sunrisers, though they beat Pune, while RCB are eighth having lost to Mumbai, KXIP, and Pune. RCB’s problem of fitting in overseas players has led to considerable flux in their batting order. They have tried a different opening combination in each game so far and this, coach Daniel Vettori admitted, has not allowed their younger batsmen lower down the order to settle into roles, increasing the pressure on Kohli and ABDV.

The match has pit two of the most prolific opening partnerships against each other. Virat Kohli and Gayle have aggregated 1064 runs, while Brendon McCullum and Smith have a tally of 1352. Only three other opening partnerships - Shikhar Dhawan-David Warner (1752), Gautam Gambhir-Robin Uthappa (1478), and Michael Hussey-M Vijay (1360) have aggregated more.

Badree has dismissed McCullum twice in six T20 innings overall and has conceded 26 runs off 34 balls. He is among the most economical spinners in the Powerplay in the IPL. Among spinners playing this season, Badree's overall IPL economy rate of 5.82 ranks behind only Rashid Khan (4.75), and Sunil Narine (5.47). But Lions' weak spin attack has been a headache for them. Their spinners have the worst overall economy rate this season: 9.49. In Powerplays, this rises to 14.00. Overall, of the 15 wickets to have fallen at the SCA Stadium this IPL, nine have fallen to pace bowlers (with Andrew Tye's five-for making up a large chunk), while spinners have taken six. The economy rates have been near identical: 9.55 for pace and 9.71 for spin.
Big, big win for RCB. They posted 213 for 2 with Gayle making 77, and Kohli 64, before Jadhav struck an unbeaten 38 to beat Gujarat Lions, who made 192 for 7.

To put into context Gayle's innings, aside from the stats I've aforementioned: he hadn't made a half-century in 17 T20 innings. His strike rate among openers who had faced a minimum of 50 deliveries prior to this game was the slowest. But he struck 77 off 38 balls as Bangalore achieved the season's highest total, before Basil Thampi trapped him in front, and Kohli holed out to Smith off Kulkarni. In reply, Chahal claimed 3-31, removing Smith and Raina, for 1 and 23, via catches from Mandeep and Watson. B-Mac struck a 44-ball 72, that should have been enough to give Lions victory on most nights, but conceding 35 off the last two overs with the ball proved to be too much. McCullum holed out to Milner, Jadhav stumped Finch for 19 off Negi, Karthik was snaffled by Kohli off Aravind for 1, Chahal caught Kisan off Milne for 39, and Jadeja was ran out for 23.

Gayle took Jadeja for 21 in one over - and one of those sixes could've been out had McCullum's hat not been in contact with the rope. Gayle posted a 23-ball 50 before Jadhav hit two sixes and four fours in the last two overs, in which Royal Challengers smashed 35. The final over that went for 17 resulted in Jadeja finishing with 4-0-57-0, his most-expensive T20 figures. Gayle missed out on a century by 23 runs. It would have been his 19th in the format and taken him 12 above the next best: McCullum. It's his first significant contribution of the season, and Gayle admits he needed it.

Tomorrow, it's Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Daredevils. Sunrisers are 3rd and have beat Kings XI by five runs, lost to Knight Riders by 17 runs, lost to Mumbai Indians by four wickets recently, while fourth-placed Daredevils havelost to Knight Riders by four wickets, but beat Kings XI by 51 runs, and beat Rising Pune by 97 runs. Delhi Daredevils beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in both matches they played last season. They were the only team Sunrisers didn't beat during their title campaign. Anderson made way for Angelo Mathews in the last match after he had won the Man-of-the-Match award in Daredevils' previous win against Kings XI Punjab. He was unwell, but is understood to have recovered and is available for the game.

Promisingly, Sanju Samson has scored 125 runs against pace at a strike-rate of 176.05 this season. But he has scored only 48 runs off 47 balls against spinners. Rashid has taken eight of his nine wickets this season in the first half of the innings - and four of those are inside the Powerplay. We could see him bowl early in the match to try and neutralise Sanju. Sunrisers (39) and Daredevils (33) are among the top teams on the table for most wickets taken this season. Daredevils have been the most effective bowling side this season - 20 of the 26 wickets they've taken are top-order wickets, at an average of 17.50 and an economy of 7.31. Dhawan has the lowest strike-rate among openers to have faced fifty balls this season - 112.50. The next lowest is Parthiv Patel's 121.33, and he has managed only 43 runs off 42 balls against Zaheer Khan across IPL seasons, and has been dismissed by him on four occasions.
Sunrisers post 191 for 4 to beat Delhi Daredevils, who made 176 for 5.

Morris claimed 4-24 but it wasn't to be enough, with Williamson striking 89 before being caught by Iyer, after Dhawan was snaffled by Matthews for 70. Yuvraj was clean bowled for 3, while Mishra claimed Warner for 4 off Morris' bowling. In reply, Mohammed Siraj claimed both openers - Billings for 13, caught by Hooda, and Samson for 42, caught by Henriques - while Iyer finished 50 unbeaten, after Nair was run out for 33, Yuvraj had Pant caught by Warner for a golden duck, and Kaul had Mathews caught by Jordan for 33.

Williamson's 89 came in his IPL 2017 debut, off 51 balls, as Sunrisers posted their fourth win in four home games. Before today, Williamson had only one six in eight innings. On Wednesday, he hit five times as many on a used pitch to lead Sunrisers to 191 for 4. Warner was dismissed for his first single-digit score in 19 T20 innings and they managed only 39 for 1 in the first six overs, so they did well to recover. It was Delhi's third defeat, and it came after Morris and Zaheer restricted Sunrisers to 31 in the powerplay. But Williamson smashed 77 off 37 after that period, and Yuvraj claimed two wickets in his first over, leaving Delhi 87-3 at the halfway stage.

Before this innings, Williamson scored at a strike rate of 68.57 in the Powerplay in the IPL, managing 24 runs off the 35 balls he faced. Against Daredevils, he scored 12 runs off 14 balls in the Powerplay, with a strike rate of 85.71. After the Powerplay, he hit 77 runs off 37 balls at a strike rate of 208.10. He hit five sixes, his joint most in a T20 innings.

Tomorrow sees Kings XI Punjab v Mumbai Indians. KXIP are fifth, and their opponents third, with the hosts losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 runs and to Delhi Daredevils by 51 runs, and to Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets. Mumbai have defeated Gujarat Lions by 6 wickets, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets, and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets.

This is MI's best start in IPL history with four wins in five matches but Kings XI's have issues, most notably their overseas players - Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Eoin Morgan and Hashim Amla - who managed only 24 runs in the last match. Miller has the second-lowest strike-rate (103.75) among the 30 batsmen who have faced at least 65 balls this season and he might lose his spot if Shaun Marsh and Martin Guptill are match fit. KXIP need to target Rana's off-stump. He has scored 127 runs off 77 balls on the leg side while only scoring 66 runs off 60 balls on the off side.

Rohit has been dismissed by spin bowling four times in four innings this season, scoring 13 runs off 21 balls. He will face Cariappa and even Maxwell, you imagine. Slow bowling will be a factor - after all, fast bowlers have the worst average in Indore out of all the venues this season. They have taken nine wickets at an average of 50.33 and an economy rate of 9.24. By contrast, spinners have taken seven wickets at 24.57 and an economy of 7.02.

Rana has hit a half-century in each of the three times he has batted at No. 3. He made 70 against Gujarat Lions in 2016 to go along with his two fifties this year. Sharma, in comparison, scored 3, 4 and 0 the last three times he was at No. 3. And they should utilise spin, which pin has troubled Mumbai's batsmen in the Powerplay this season. They have gained only 26 runs in 42 deliveries and have given up five wickets in the process. By contrast, Mumbai have scored 201 off 138 against fast bowlers in the first six overs.

Vohra has, by his own admission, not converted his starts often enough. But his 95 off 50 balls was excellent - and he rescued the chase of 160 from 82 for 6. He will be disappointed not to see out Kumar's over, in which Cariappa was bowled off the first ball. Vohra said the loss of opening partner Hashim Amla and captain Glenn Maxwell inside the first three overs had forced him to change plan. After scoring 41 runs in the 15th and 16th overs, Kings XI went into the last two needing 16 runs with three wickets in hand, and they just couldn't manage it unfortunately.

@Mackay Just want to say thanks for getting all the facts together. The previews on the IPL website aren't as good.
Sanju holed out when Delhi were 105-3, leaving them with 87 needed from 41. Morris, with a SR of 238 this season, was ideal, but the management sent in Mathews, who laboured to 31 runs off 23 balls, before getting out off the penultimate ball. Mathews has 41 innings to Morris' 19, with a 22 vs 35 average, and 16 vs 44 average between overs 16-20. It was a really questionable decision, with Morris taking a boundary every 4.6 balls, compared to Mathews' 7. Morris needs to bat higher than six. He has only faced 31 deliveries, but has hit 12 of them for fours of sixes. Mathews, on Wednesday, took 20 balls to hit his first six and collected only three boundaries in total.

The interesting thing, for me, is the fact that sides chasing in T20 have the advantage. They know the target, which helps them have a clear strategy, gameplan and mindset. Usually, the side batting first - not knowing what a good score is - runs a big risk of either under-utilising its batting resources or failing by aiming too high.

Dew also disadvantages the side batting first, proven by the BBL 2016-17, when teams chose to bat first in seven out of 35 matches, and lost each of those. Overall, 12 out of 35 matches were won by teams batting first. In last year's IPL, teams willingly batted first on 11 occasions out of 59, and that resulted in only two wins. Overall, 19 out of 59 matches were won by sides batting first. In the previous CPL, only five of the 34 tosses resulted in sides batting first, which in turn resulted in no success. In the 2017 PSL, only once did a team choose to bat first.

The current IPL is reversing the trend slightly, with sides batting first having won 40% of the 20 matches so far. Delhi and RCB have willingly chosen to bat first - and the four matches that they have won between them have been successful defences. In the case of Delhi, they have a better bowling attack than batting unit, which means their order has some freedom when batting first.
LOL. Go Mumbai! KXIP were utterly creamed.
Absolute masterclass from Amla. He smashed an unbeaten 104 off 60 balls as KXIP made 198-4, losing Marsh (caught by Pollard off McCleneghan), Stoinis (caught by Pollard off McCleneghan), and Saha, clean bowled by Pandya, for 26, 1 and 11 respectively. McCleneghan posted 2-46, and Maxwell was skittled by Bumrah for a 18-ball 40 before Mumbai aced the chase, losing two wickets (Maxwell catching Patel and Buttler for 37 and 77 off Stoinis and Sharma respectively), as Rana finished unbeaten on 62, and Pandya raced to a four-ball 14.

Amla's 51 runs off Lasith Malinga on Thursday was the second-highest in batsman v bowler records in IPL history. Kohli has taken Yadav for 52 off 17, back in 2013, Pollard took Mishra for 47 off 18 in 2014, Gayle racked up 43 off 10 against Murtaza in 2013, and Rahane managed 43 off 14 vs Aravind back in 2012. This is the first time in his illustrious T20 career that Malinga has conceded 50-plus runs in two consecutive games.

MI coasted to their highest successful IPL chase, achieving their target of 199 with 27 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand, reclaiming their spot atop the points table. It was also the highest successful chase this season. Really, the groundwork for Mumbai was done b the openers - Buttler and Parthiv - who plundered 82 in the Powerplay. There were 14 boundaries and just five dot balls, the second lowest in IPL history.

Buttler has opened in each of his six innings this IPL season, but until Thursday, he had only made 108 runs at a strike-rate of 133. But he smashed 32 off his 77 runs through the covers at a strike-rate of 266. This was also Buttler's highest score in T20 cricket. It was also his first fifty in 20 innings across formats, since his 76 in the first innings of the Mumbai Test last year. The 199 Mumbai made in 15.3 overs was their highest successful chase in the IPL, beating the 190 they made in 14.4 overs against Rajasthan Royals three years ago.

KKR vs Gujarat tomorrow, with the hosts having beat Delhi, Sunrisers and KXIP recently, while the bottom-side Lions have lost to RCB and MI, but beat Pune. Earlier this campaign, Kolkata beat Gujarat with 10 wickets and 31 balls to spare, chasing a target of 184. Tye should be deployed in the Powerplay more often, largely because he has given up only one boundary from 18 deliveries in this phase at the IPL. In his last T20 tournament as well - the BBL - he had an economy rate of 4.66 in the first six overs. You imagine KKR will use left-arm spin, with McCullum falling to it 20 times. But Gujara themselves could deploy that tactic, with Robin Uthappa on 19. Shakib and Jadeja will look to do damage, as Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey have also suffered, with 15 and 14 dismissals respectively.

KKR's average run rate in the first six overs has been 9.90 - the highest among all teams this season. And Gambhir hit a boundary every 6.9 balls on average in the Powerplay last year, but in 2017, he smacks them every 3.6 balls. His strike-rate during this stage of the innings is 148.75, a significant rise from the 110.94 in 2016. The Lions attack has taken only four wickets in the Powerplay in IPL 2017. Pandey, who is among the top-five run-scorers this year, has only made one run from two innings against Lions. He averages 0.5 against them.
(edited 6 years ago)
Gujarat Lions post 188 for 6 to beat Kolkata Knight Riders, who made 187 for 5. Narine, Uthappa and Gambhir all made starts, posting a 17-ball 42, 33 off 28 and 72 off 48 respectively, before they were snaffled by Faulkner, Raina and McCullum off Raina, Faulkner and Kumar. Basil Thampi clean bowled Pandey for 24, and Yadav was run out for 1, before Raina smashed a 46-ball 84 to ace the chase. Pandey took three catches - off Coulter-Nile to send back Finch for 31, off Woakes to send back B-Mac, and off Kuldeep to remove Raina. Coulter-Nile claimed 2-41, removing Karthik via a Gambhir catch for 3, and Kuldeep claimed 2-33, removing Ishan for 4 with the help of a Umesh catch. Umesh also clean bowled Smith for 5.

Guarat's second win in six games temporarily lifted them off the bottom of the table. At 115 for 5, Lions were far from ahead in a chase of 188. But Raina got them over the line and eventually fell with Lions needing eight, but Jadeja and Faulkner did the rest with 10 balls to spare. Raina's only other fifty this season had also come against Kolkata. n that match, Lions' first of the season, his unbeaten 68 lifted his team to 183 only for Lynn and Gambhir to smoke the chase. He went past Kohli to become India's highest run-scorer in T20s, scoring 36 off 24 spin balls, and 48 off 22 seam. This was Suresh Raina's highest score for Gujarat Lions. He went past the 75 he made Sunrisers Hyderabad last year. Gujarat Lions had taken only 15 wickets in their first five games, and Tye has taken 7 of those, making their decision to drop him for Faulkner a brave one. The bowling to Narine was poor, with a lack of bouncers and yorkers - the two times Narine had gotten out in the Powerplay before today were against Bhuvneshwar's yorker and Aaron's attempted bouncer.

KKR started well, with Narine's promotion helping him rack up seven boundaries off 12 balls, as KKR raced to 44 without loss in three overs. Raina posted his highest T20 score and most runs made by a batsman with boundaries in percentage terms at the IPL. At 114 for 2 in the 12th over, Lions were staring at 200 plus. But they did well, conceding just four boundaries in five overs after Gambhir's dismissal, and didn't allow KKR much after they were 149 for 2 halfway through the 17th over. McCullum finally defeated his left-arm spin problem, after 20 dismissals. His 17-ball 33 was excellent. KKR collected just 38 from the last four overs, after the first three had been worth 44.

Tomorrow sees Pune vs Sunrisers, with the hosts beating RCB but losing to Gujarat and Delhi recently. They sit in 7th, compared to their opponents, who are third after beating DD and KXIP, but losing to KKR. Supergiant have had a five-day break to rejuvenate themselves after a win against RCB, while Sunrisers will be playing their third game in six days. Rahul Tripathi, Manoj Tiwary, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat impressed for the hosts in their win over Royal Challengers that broke a three-match losing streak. And Williamson's exceptional knock at No. 3 in his first game of the season could mean more time on the bench for Cutting.

Tiwary's form is particularly impressive given he's been chopped and changed. He hit a 11-ball 27 vs RCB and with Dhoni continuing to struggle (his strike rate of 87.14 is the worst among those who have faced 50-plus deliveries this season), he could be pushed up to 4. Sunrisers have lost twice away from home and they have three left-handers in their top five - Warner, Dhawan and Yubray - meaning Christian could be deployed, rather than Zampa to complement Tahir. Pune struggle at the death - they concede 11.95 an over between overs 16 and 20 - and Dhoni has been far from fluent with the bat. Rashid Khan has generally impressed, but has struggled against Indian batsmen for three successive games. Uthappa took 21 off 12 and Vohra 37 off 14, and Rashid he was picked for 16 off seven deliveries by Shreyas Iyer in the previous game. He has conceded 140 off the 109 deliveries he has bowled to Indian batsmen.

MI vs DD, too. All of Mumbai's wins have come while chasing and while Rayudu has returned to training after suffering a groin injury in Mumbai's opening game, he is not yet available for selection. Mumbai have beaten RCB, Gujarat and KXIP. and sit top, while Delhi have also beaten the former, but lost to KKR and Sunrisers.

Malinga has been struggling, with three of his most expensive T20 spells this season. Southee could theoretically replace him, given the fact Malinga has gone at 8.80 an over in the Powerplay this season. He has gone at 11.47 in the slog overs and, for Daredevils who have a run rate of 7.33 in this period, they will need to limit MI with spin. Buttler has scored at 7.23 an over against spinners this IPL, as opposed to 10.28 against fast bowlers. Patel, his opening partner, has scored at 9.36 an over against pace. Against spin, the number plummets to 5.55, along with four dismissals in as many innings.

Delhi have registered only one win - with four losses - at the Wankhede, and both teams have proven solid at the death: Mumbai have the best run rate - 12.26 - in the last five overs, followed by Daredevils, who have scored at 11.44 an over. There's plenty of other subplots: Pollard has hit Amit Mishra for ten sixes, the most for a batsman against a single bowler in the history of the IPL and Samson has scored at 6.09 an over against spinners, which is significantly lower compared to his scoring rate - 10.24 - against seamers. However, against Harbhajan, Samson boasts 74 runs off 54 balls across all T20s at 8.22 an over without being dismissed even once.
(edited 6 years ago)
Big, big win for Pune, who posted 179-4 to beat Sunrisers, who made 176-3. Warner made 43 before he was bowled by Unadkat, Williamson was trapped in front by Christian for 21, Tahir had Dhawan caught by Tripathi for 30, leaving Henriques unbeaten on 55 alongside Hooda, not out on 19, before Dhoni fired a 34-ball 61 to help clean up some of the mess he himself created. Dhoni's slow start of 26 off 23 balls had converted an equation of 90 off 55 into 47 off 18, but he took out Kumar with 35 runs off his last 11 balls to seal the win. Sunrisers were coming in with just two defeats in 12 having made 175+. They struggled without Nehra and Mustafizur, though, with costly drops: Tripathi was put down on 17, Tiwary was given a lifeline. Dhawan/Warner went slow yet again, crawling to 55-1 off 8 overs, and Sunrisers, the best side in the middle overs this year, managed only 68 runs between the sixth and the 15th to be reduced to 113 for 2.

This was the 15th time Dhoni has remained not out in a successful chase, scoring 35 off the final 11 balls he faced, taking his SR from 113 to 179. He got 20 of his 61 runs to long-on and 17 behind square on the off-side. His performance was even more remarkable given the fact he has been out of form, and Pune needed him, especially after the dismissal of Tripathi, then the highest scorer of the innings, and Stokes. An equation that was once a manageable 90 off 10 overs turned into a much stiffer 47 off three. He treated Kumar - the best bowler in the competition - with disdain, and brought the equation down to 30 off two overs. Before Saturday, Dhoni had scored 61 off 73 balls in five innings this season and only once did his strike-rate nudge over run-a-ball. Today, Dhoni's first 23 balls had fetched 26. By smashing 35 off the next 11 deliveries, his season strike rate jumped from 87.14 to 117.30. B Kumar has conceded 99 runs off 78 deliveries in the final five overs this season. Dhoni smashed 20% of those runs in one single over on Saturday.

Tomorrow is Gujarat vs KXIP, in a battle of eighth vs sixth. Lions lost to RCB and MI but beat KKR, giving them confidence and a morale boost. Kings XI Punjab began their season with back-to-back wins, and have lost four on the bounce since. Morgan and David Miller were dropped for that game. Manan Vohra too was absent, due to illness, and if he has recovered he could take back his role as opener and Shaun Marsh could be pushed to No. 3. Marsh has scored only 15 off 27 balls against Praveen Kumar but Lions have only taken 20 wickets in six games - the fewest of all teams this season. To put that in perspective, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken 16 wickets all by himself.

KXIP have taken 26, and they may deploy Patel in the Powerplay. He has a healthy record against all of Gujarat's overseas players in the IPL. Axar has dismissed B-Mac twice, conceding 35 runs off 36 balls, he has dismissed Smith once, giving away 11 off 12 balls and, though he hasn't dismissed Aaron Finch, he has kept him to only 10 runs off eight balls. McCullum has a strike rate of 200 against Ishant Sharma in the IPL, scoring 74 off 37 balls. Mohit Sharma, meanwhile, has dismissed McCullum twice in seven balls. Lions have the worst economy rate in the Powerplay (10.05) and middle overs (9.38) in IPL 2017. On the other hand, Kings XI have the worst economy rate (12.40) in the last five overs.

It's also KKR vs RCB, with ABDV and Badree likely to be fit. If that is the case, and Royal Challengers look at picking both overseas players, Travis Head and Shane Watson could make way for them. Last time out, KKR opened their attack with spin - Sunil Narine and Shakib Al Hasan. If Gayle plays, that plan may be used again. Narine has one of the best economy rates against Gayle among spinners (4.39) in T20s, and has dismissed him four times - twice in the IPL. KKR will also be mindful of Royal Challengers' struggles in the Powerplay, especially against spin. In the Powerplay this season, RCB have scored the fewest runs among all teams: 239 at a run rate of 6.83. Against spin in Powerplays, they have scored at a rate of 4.33, the slowest, compared to 7.33 against pace.

Gayle's form is ominous for KKR. At Eden Gardens, Gayle has scored 471 runs in nine innings, his second-best tally at a ground during the IPL and since his switch to the Royal Challengers franchise in 2011, Gayle's scores at Eden Gardens have been: 102*, 86, 6, 96 and 49, all batting second. KKR struggle in the Powerplay, with three wickets at an economy rate of 9.11. Their bowlers have been the strongest during the middle overs (7-15th), taking 22 wickets, the most, at an economy rate of 7.68. RCB's economy rate of 8.67 in the middle overs is, by contrast, the second poorest among teams this season, and they have taken 12 wickets in that phase. Their bowlers have been most effective in the Powerplay with 10 wickets at an economy rate of 8.25. A lot will rest on Pandey, who has hit 11 sixes in the tournament, already his personal best in an IPL season. 236 of his 245 runs in the tournament so far have come outside of the Powerplay overs, the most by a batsman this season. His contribution to Knight Riders' tally outside of the Powerplay stands at 35.54%.
Oh, and Mumbai beat DD, posting 142-8 before reducing Delhi to 128-7. Mishra and Cummins posted 2-18 and 2-20 respectively, sending back Sharma for 5 (caught by Cummins) and Pandya (caught by Pant) for 17, and Rana for 8 (caught by Anderson) and Pollard for 26 (caught by Samson). Rabada clean bowled Patel for 8, and Buttler, Pandya and Harbhajan were all ran out, for 28, 24 and 2. In reply, McCleneghan picked up 3-24, sending back Samson, caught by Sharma for 9, Iyer, caught by Patel for 6, and Anderson trapped in front for a three-ball duck. Tare was ran out for a golden duck, Pant holed out to Harbhajan off Bumrah, who claimed 2-21, also removing Rabada for 44. Nair was also clean bowled by Pandya.

Mumbai batted first for the first time in six matches, but they struggled to a below-par total - but it proved to be enough to give them their sixth win in seven matches. DD were put under pressure by early wickets, and they lost five wickets inside the Powerplay and another in the seventh over to slip to 24 for 6. A seventh-wicket stand of 91 between Rabada and Morris ensured Daredevils stayed in contention, but some smart end-overs bowling from Bumrah ensured a MI win. He conceded only four runs in a low-scoring 17th over, with DD needing 46 off 24.

It had been four years since a score of under 150 had been defended successfully at Wankhede Stadium. MI were up against it but McCleneghan impressed and won them the game, in his first spell of 2-0-7-3, he took out three key DD players and took 1-3 in eight deliveries to left-handers. Among bowlers with a minimum of 25 IPL wickets, McClenaghan's 16.3 is the sixth-best strike rate. Since McClenaghan's IPL debut, in 2015, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken more three-wicket hauls than his six. Only Bhuvneshwar and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken more wickets than his 47 in this period.
wth is wrong with RCB. They can't chase down a mere 132

wth is wrong with RCB. They can't chase down a mere 132

RCB are such jokes this year. They might genuinely get the lowest score in the IPL ever.

EDIT: Good job RCB, you had ABD, Kohli and Gayle yet you got the lowest score ever in the IPL.

Even Kohli admits it: "That was probably the worst batting performance by RCB and probably in the history of the IPL"

I thought my team was bad (KXIP).

A team with Kohli, Gayle, AB, Kedar Jadhav, and not forgetting the irrepressible Stuart Binny all out for 49.

Sunil Narine highest score

Over confidence has gotten the better of RCB quite simply put. They need to calm down and get back to bloody basics.

This year its either MI or KKR taking the trophy methinks
