Awesome stuff from Gayle. The stats for Gayle are just mind-boggling: 2550 is the difference in aggregate between him and the next-highest in the T20s - B-Mac is in second place with an aggregate of 7524. To put that aggregate difference in perspective, the difference between the aggregates of McCullum and the 20th-ranked Mahela Jayawardene is only 2069. Gayle has struck 743 sixes, while Kieron Pollard is second with 459. 75% of Gayle's T20 runs have come in boundaries - he has hit 769 fours and 743 sixes. Among batsmen with at least 4000 T20 runs, the next-best percentage is Virender Sehwag's 69.7.
He has played for 11 T20 sides, and chalked up a whopping 15 T20 hundreds between 2011 and 2015 from 174 innings, which is an average of 11.6 innings per hundred. His strike-rate is 149.56, only bettered by Pollard, who has a strike rate of 151.72. And among batsmen with 4000-plus runs, only two batsmen have a higher dot percentage: Dwayne Smith (46.5), and Lendl Simmons (45.8).

Big, big win for RCB. They posted 213 for 2 with Gayle making 77, and Kohli 64, before Jadhav struck an unbeaten 38 to beat Gujarat Lions, who made 192 for 7.

Delhi Daredevils beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in both matches they played last season. They were the only team Sunrisers didn't beat during their title campaign. Anderson made way for Angelo Mathews in the last match after he had won the Man-of-the-Match award in Daredevils' previous win against Kings XI Punjab. He was unwell, but is understood to have recovered and is available for the game.
Promisingly, Sanju Samson has scored 125 runs against pace at a strike-rate of 176.05 this season. But he has scored only 48 runs off 47 balls against spinners. Rashid has taken eight of his nine wickets this season in the first half of the innings - and four of those are inside the Powerplay. We could see him bowl early in the match to try and neutralise Sanju. Sunrisers (39) and Daredevils (33) are among the top teams on the table for most wickets taken this season. Daredevils have been the most effective bowling side this season - 20 of the 26 wickets they've taken are top-order wickets, at an average of 17.50 and an economy of 7.31. Dhawan has the lowest strike-rate among openers to have faced fifty balls this season - 112.50. The next lowest is Parthiv Patel's 121.33, and he has managed only 43 runs off 42 balls against Zaheer Khan across IPL seasons, and has been dismissed by him on four occasions.

Williamson's 89 came in his IPL 2017 debut, off 51 balls, as Sunrisers posted their fourth win in four home games. Before today, Williamson had only one six in eight innings. On Wednesday, he hit five times as many on a used pitch to lead Sunrisers to 191 for 4. Warner was dismissed for his first single-digit score in 19 T20 innings and they managed only 39 for 1 in the first six overs, so they did well to recover. It was Delhi's third defeat, and it came after Morris and Zaheer restricted Sunrisers to 31 in the powerplay. But Williamson smashed 77 off 37 after that period, and Yuvraj claimed two wickets in his first over, leaving Delhi 87-3 at the halfway stage.

Mumbai have defeated Gujarat Lions by 6 wickets, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets, and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets.
This is MI's best start in IPL history with four wins in five matches but Kings XI's have issues, most notably their overseas players - Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Eoin Morgan and Hashim Amla - who managed only 24 runs in the last match. Miller has the second-lowest strike-rate (103.75) among the 30 batsmen who have faced at least 65 balls this season and he might lose his spot if Shaun Marsh and Martin Guptill are match fit. KXIP need to target Rana's off-stump. He has scored 127 runs off 77 balls on the leg side while only scoring 66 runs off 60 balls on the off side.
Rohit has been dismissed by spin bowling four times in four innings this season, scoring 13 runs off 21 balls. He will face Cariappa and even Maxwell, you imagine. Slow bowling will be a factor - after all, fast bowlers have the worst average in Indore out of all the venues this season. They have taken nine wickets at an average of 50.33 and an economy rate of 9.24. By contrast, spinners have taken seven wickets at 24.57 and an economy of 7.02.
Rana has hit a half-century in each of the three times he has batted at No. 3. He made 70 against Gujarat Lions in 2016 to go along with his two fifties this year. Sharma, in comparison, scored 3, 4 and 0 the last three times he was at No. 3. And they should utilise spin, which pin has troubled Mumbai's batsmen in the Powerplay this season. They have gained only 26 runs in 42 deliveries and have given up five wickets in the process. By contrast, Mumbai have scored 201 off 138 against fast bowlers in the first six overs.
Vohra has, by his own admission, not converted his starts often enough. But his 95 off 50 balls was excellent - and he rescued the chase of 160 from 82 for 6. He will be disappointed not to see out Kumar's over, in which Cariappa was bowled off the first ball. Vohra said the loss of opening partner Hashim Amla and captain Glenn Maxwell inside the first three overs had forced him to change plan. After scoring 41 runs in the 15th and 16th overs, Kings XI went into the last two needing 16 runs with three wickets in hand, and they just couldn't manage it unfortunately.

Sanju holed out when Delhi were 105-3, leaving them with 87 needed from 41. Morris, with a SR of 238 this season, was ideal, but the management sent in Mathews, who laboured to 31 runs off 23 balls, before getting out off the penultimate ball. Mathews has 41 innings to Morris' 19, with a 22 vs 35 average, and 16 vs 44 average between overs 16-20. It was a really questionable decision, with Morris taking a boundary every 4.6 balls, compared to Mathews' 7. Morris needs to bat higher than six. He has only faced 31 deliveries, but has hit 12 of them for fours of sixes. Mathews, on Wednesday, took 20 balls to hit his first six and collected only three boundaries in total.
The interesting thing, for me, is the fact that sides chasing in T20 have the advantage. They know the target, which helps them have a clear strategy, gameplan and mindset. Usually, the side batting first - not knowing what a good score is - runs a big risk of either under-utilising its batting resources or failing by aiming too high.
Dew also disadvantages the side batting first, proven by the BBL 2016-17, when teams chose to bat first in seven out of 35 matches, and lost each of those. Overall, 12 out of 35 matches were won by teams batting first. In last year's IPL, teams willingly batted first on 11 occasions out of 59, and that resulted in only two wins. Overall, 19 out of 59 matches were won by sides batting first. In the previous CPL, only five of the 34 tosses resulted in sides batting first, which in turn resulted in no success. In the 2017 PSL, only once did a team choose to bat first.

Delhi and RCB have willingly chosen to bat first - and the four matches that they have won between them have been successful defences. In the case of Delhi, they have a better bowling attack than batting unit, which means their order has some freedom when batting first.

Absolute masterclass from Amla. He smashed an unbeaten 104 off 60 balls as KXIP made 198-4, losing Marsh (caught by Pollard off McCleneghan), Stoinis (caught by Pollard off McCleneghan), and Saha, clean bowled by Pandya, for 26, 1 and 11 respectively. McCleneghan posted 2-46, and Maxwell was skittled by Bumrah for a 18-ball 40 before Mumbai aced the chase, losing two wickets (Maxwell catching Patel and Buttler for 37 and 77 off Stoinis and Sharma respectively), as Rana finished unbeaten on 62, and Pandya raced to a four-ball 14.
Amla's 51 runs off Lasith Malinga on Thursday was the second-highest in batsman v bowler records in IPL history. Kohli has taken Yadav for 52 off 17, back in 2013, Pollard took Mishra for 47 off 18 in 2014, Gayle racked up 43 off 10 against Murtaza in 2013, and Rahane managed 43 off 14 vs Aravind back in 2012. This is the first time in his illustrious T20 career that Malinga has conceded 50-plus runs in two consecutive games.
MI coasted to their highest successful IPL chase, achieving their target of 199 with 27 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand, reclaiming their spot atop the points table. It was also the highest successful chase this season. Really, the groundwork for Mumbai was done b the openers - Buttler and Parthiv - who plundered 82 in the Powerplay. There were 14 boundaries and just five dot balls, the second lowest in IPL history.
Buttler has opened in each of his six innings this IPL season, but until Thursday, he had only made 108 runs at a strike-rate of 133. But he smashed 32 off his 77 runs through the covers at a strike-rate of 266. This was also Buttler's highest score in T20 cricket. It was also his first fifty in 20 innings across formats, since his 76 in the first innings of the Mumbai Test last year. The 199 Mumbai made in 15.3 overs was their highest successful chase in the IPL, beating the 190 they made in 14.4 overs against Rajasthan Royals three years ago.
KKR vs Gujarat tomorrow, with the hosts having beat Delhi, Sunrisers and KXIP recently, while the bottom-side Lions have lost to RCB and MI, but beat Pune. Earlier this campaign, Kolkata beat Gujarat with 10 wickets and 31 balls to spare, chasing a target of 184. Tye should be deployed in the Powerplay more often, largely because he has given up only one boundary from 18 deliveries in this phase at the IPL. In his last T20 tournament as well - the BBL - he had an economy rate of 4.66 in the first six overs. You imagine KKR will use left-arm spin, with McCullum falling to it 20 times. But Gujara themselves could deploy that tactic, with Robin Uthappa on 19. Shakib and Jadeja will look to do damage, as Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey have also suffered, with 15 and 14 dismissals respectively.
KKR's average run rate in the first six overs has been 9.90 - the highest among all teams this season. And Gambhir hit a boundary every 6.9 balls on average in the Powerplay last year, but in 2017, he smacks them every 3.6 balls. His strike-rate during this stage of the innings is 148.75, a significant rise from the 110.94 in 2016. The Lions attack has taken only four wickets in the Powerplay in IPL 2017. Pandey, who is among the top-five run-scorers this year, has only made one run from two innings against Lions. He averages 0.5 against them.

Narine, Uthappa and Gambhir all made starts, posting a 17-ball 42, 33 off 28 and 72 off 48 respectively, before they were snaffled by Faulkner, Raina and McCullum off Raina, Faulkner and Kumar. Big, big win for Pune, who posted 179-4 to beat Sunrisers, who made 176-3. Warner made 43 before he was bowled by Unadkat, Williamson was trapped in front by Christian for 21, Tahir had Dhawan caught by Tripathi for 30, leaving Henriques unbeaten on 55 alongside Hooda, not out on 19, before Dhoni fired a 34-ball 61 to help clean up some of the mess he himself created. Dhoni's slow start of 26 off 23 balls had converted an equation of 90 off 55 into 47 off 18, but he took out Kumar with 35 runs off his last 11 balls to seal the win. Sunrisers were coming in with just two defeats in 12 having made 175+. They struggled without Nehra and Mustafizur, though, with costly drops: Tripathi was put down on 17, Tiwary was given a lifeline.
