I know! Kinda strange eh? But very French.

This is from his wiki.

"Macron has notably advocated in favor of the free market and reducing the public-finances deficit.[35] He first publicly used the term "liberal" to describe himself in a 2015 interview with Le Monde. He added that he is "neither right nor left" and that he advocates "a collective solidarity."[36][37] During a visit to the Vendée in August 2016, he stated, "Honesty compels me to say that I am not a socialist." He explained that he was part of the "left government" because he wanted "to serve the public interest" as any minister would.[38] In his book Revolution, published in November 2016, Macron presents himself as both a "leftist" and a "liberal ... if by liberalism one means trust in man."[39] With his party En Marche!, Macron's stated aim is to transcend the left-right divide in a manner similar to François Bayrou or Jacques Chaban-Delmas, asserting that "the real divide in our country ... is between progressives and conservatives." With the launch of his independent candidacy and his use of anti-establishment rhetoric, Macron has been labelled a "populist" by some observers, notably Manuel Valls, but Macron rejects this term.[40][41]"

So he's a Tony Blair except we don't have financial capitalism to tax and provide a proper welfare state. So more austerity economics. Who knows, maybe that will :innocent::innocent::innocent::innocent: things up enough so Le Pen wins next time -____-

At least he isn't shutting the borders to refugees.

I do believe he will fail like Hollande and Sarkozy before him. He will not have a majorité in the chamber, so it's going to be very difficult to keep his promises. Few people are really enthusiastic about him anyway; they voted for him because everybody else was terrible.

Get ya popcorn ready.

So I've eaten the popcorn and now I'm just waiting for the complete certainty of Macron being declared President de la Republique and for your neo-fascist chums in the Front Nationale to be sent packing.

She's going to continue to snipe from the sidelines, but this feels like a decisive moment for the EU - I think it was the moment that the EU turned back the tide of nationalist reaction to the economic crisis.

That was exactly my feeling. Exactly.

I was watching the coverage on France 2 and was struck by how the rhetoric of the two main players mirrored that of our Brexit referendum. Le Pen was 'project fear' - her speech was all about 'saving France', 'protecting it from globalism', 'defending the culture'. Macron, shiny and fresh-faced, was all about being open, reforming and renewing, strongly europhillic, outward, creating opportunities. Sunlit uplands and all that.

Macron, Président, Macron, Président! was the chant. All he needed was 'Things Can Only Get Better' playing in the background and I was back there on that sunny morning in May.

Ignoring the fact that so many of the other voters besides Macron and Le Pen were socialists, protectionists or anti-EU.

Macron will never get the votes of these people, and I really don't think he'll get many of Fillon's either as Fillon is a social conservative.

She continues to rise. I don't see how it "turns back the tide". I would rather say Macron is the EU's last hope.

Jean Marie Le Pen scored 18% back in 2002 as an out and out Vichy-style fascisti. With all the hype and the repackaging and the phony window dressing and the supposed New Right Paradigm, she only managed 21%.

Turnout was lower in 2002. Her father got 4.8 million votes, she received 7.6 million votes yesterday.

However the main difference will be at the second stage. While her father stayed at 18%, she may reach 40%. That's the difference; people from other parties can vote for her, whereas her father was a pariah.

This is without the secert army of voters, rip EU. They'll join Britain in exiting and Europe about to divide and seperate, it won't go into a world war 3 but it will turn into a trade war that will decline EU, but rise western powers such as UK, France, Italy (they next, but will leave later a lot later) and will heal Greece. There won't be much western decline than...

**Fillion scandal means his out now, people are fed up with socialist that isn't working anymore and want change**
Get ya popcorn ready.

But are you sure??
Gentle reminder that France is 15% Muslims and a greater percent non ethnic French AKA not French. Front National has to win next time and will.
