This. Why would an animal develop and adaptation which reduces its likelihood of breeding? Leftists don't understand biology. The actual story is that animals which are forced to engage in more intense physical activity adapt to that stimulus, which we knew anyway.

The "better genes" hypothesis for sexual selection is probably the best known. However, in most species, male and females diverge in their interests around optimal mating strategies. This leads to much more complex mating dynamics than a simplistic "mate as often as you can" approach would imply.

Among biologists - both "leftist" and otherwise, as far as I know - a well known example is the evolution of toxic sperm in Drosophila. Further examples include many invertebrates which have evolved genitalia which in the male damages the female's reproductive tract so as to inhibit her further mating with other males. The females have evolved corresponding structures to prevent damage. The result is a "Red Queen" arms race between the sexes in which the males attempt to gain an advantage over the females and vice-versa.

Appreciating this is very helpful in some practical situations - for example, in devising effective control strategies for insect bourne diseases like malaria.
