A levels and law!

Hey,

So I wanted to do medicine and now I'm really interested in law. Issue being I'm in year 12 doing bio, Chem, maths and psy - can I get in with these subjects.

Also my gcses are 2 a* 7a and 2 b are they good enough!

Law usually doesnt need specific subjects - just mega-high grades.

You will need some relevant work experience and to have done relevant reading/thinking to be able to explain why you want to do Law, not just the course but as a career.

You need to look up some Uni courses at a range of Unis to see what each one wants - both A levels and GCSEs. Examples :

Reading ... Start with something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Law-Very-Short-Introduction-Introductions or https://www.amazon.co.uk/About-Law-Introduction-Clarendon/dp/0198763883/ and then try https://www.amazon.co.uk/English-Legal-System-Gary-Slapper/dp/1138944459 Dont buy them - you can borrow them through 'inter library loan' from your local libary. Once you find areas that interest you can find other books on Amazon.

Hey, I'm a year above you but I was in the same situation last year. Wanted to medicine, but I swapped to law (was failing chemistry) Also doing similar subjects - Biology Psychology & Politics at A2 with Chemistry at AS. I've been accepted to Kings College London so yeah you can certainly get in with those subjects.

Yeah I firmed Kings :biggrin:

I'm pretty confident with psychology to be honest, Biology not so much. It's at the point where I'm not worried about getting an A* in psych, but am worried about getting an A in bio. I think I'm more likely to come out with A*A*B than A*AA
Luckilly there is a lot of overlap with AQA Psychology and OCR Biology, with most of the biopsychology module being covered in different biology topics.

Yeah im doing law psychology and sociology and its looking like I may come out with A*A*B rather than A*AA. Its just remembering loads of evaluations for psychology, the basic content im alright with. How are you remembering all the evaluations for every topic and how are you structuring it?

You don't have to revise it, you can just look at Bowlby's monotropic theory and see that it's nature over nurture (children are programmed inately to give social releases which attachment figures respond to on a biological level) and then you can also evaluate it with other studies, so learning theory. That's already two. Shafer & Emmerson's studies also raise questions about the legitimacy of a primary attachment figure since a sizeable proportion of infantss in their study had joint attachment figures.
So as you revise content you can make synoptic links for evaluation.

I did those exact subjects at AS (biology, chemistry, math and physics) and did biology, chemistry and math at A2 level. So, yes, that combination works.

same, i'm sooo worried about bio.
Im having a pretty okay time with my other subs but Cs in Bio so far
and i just dont have the time, energy nor effort to deal with bio's bs anymore tbh
I think im going to drop Bio
3 subjects and 2AS is pretty okay right?

You can do it tho, from what I've seen it gets to a point with bio where it all just clicks and your grades take a jump up :biggrin:

I mean realistically i wont drop it, but it would b super reassuring to at least know they want me even if i only have 3 subjects ^-^
