Well I felt like the 2016 paper was horrible, and ended up with a D given I was doing past papers and getting a B. Given I'm retaking C1 from experience, I'm expecting the paper to be difficult. But either way a difficult paper generally means lower grade boundaries.

That's would i would of thought but i checked the grade boundaries and for C1 to get an A it was-

2016 : 61/75
2015 : 63/75
(2014 didn't work)
2013 : 63/75

so not much difference :frown:

Is this the supposedly "impossible" C1 paper? If so, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Can anyone confirm thats the right one?
I did the 2016 C1 paper last year in May and at the time I thought it was horrible.
Now I think it's a lot easier but still harder than an average C1 paper given all the fractions.

I reckon 2017's C1 paper will be easier, or at least nicer than 2016's.

Yes it's that one. Interestingly though, the grade boundaries aren't that low which suggests that the people who found it "impossible" were just the ones shouting the loudest

Do the exams for maths this year count towards 50% of the full a level? And does anyone know that if you are doing science exams this year for AS but continue on to do A2, do the grades you get in AS not count towards the full a level grade? Thanks anyone who responds

The maths count for 50% yes, not sciences though since they've become linear. However that means next year youre going to have to revise this years science stuff whereas you can forget all of c1c2 and s1/m1

Many thanks, not to sure why my college is making us sit the AS exams this year if they don't actually count, do you know if they are used for anything? Are they used as your predicted grades to put onto Uni application? Thanks once again

would like to comment on the start of the thread about rationalising surds when the denominator is a +/- b^1/2 , you multiply top and bottom by b^1/2 -/+ a not the other way around.

It's the exact same thing? 😧

Hello! I would really like to practice a couple of questions before the exam. I think IAL edexcel maths has a January session so their papers must be out by now. Does anyone know where we can find these? Thanks in advance
Does anyone know how much marks it is to get 100ums, 90 ums and 80ums on c1 and c2?

It varies, but I'll quickly do the last 5 years. (pardon the crappy formatting)

2016 - [C1 | 100 UMS - 73 | 90 UMS - 67 | 80 UMS - 61] | [C2 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 69 | 80 UMS - 63]

2015 - [C1 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 69 | 80 UMS - 63] | [C2 | 100 UMS - 73 | 90 UMS - 66 | 80 UMS - 59]

2014 - [C1 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 70 | 80 UMS - 64] | [C2 | 100 UMS - 74 | 90 UMS - 67 | 80 UMS - 60]

2013 - [C1 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 69 | 80 UMS - 63] | [C2 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 69 | 80 UMS - 62]

2012 - [C1 | 100 UMS - 73 | 90 UMS - 66 | 80 UMS - 59] | [C2 | 100 UMS - 75 | 90 UMS - 69 | 80 UMS - 63]

Try C12 May 2015 IAL. According to some, that was quite a challenging paper.
