Immigration will be reduced to 'tens of thousands' after Brexit

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/brexit-latest-news-net-migration-reduction-zero-immigration-controls-eu-nationals-europe-report-a7511191.html

Immigration to the UK will be reduced by around 90% to 'tens of thousands', not just from the EU but from around the world.

Great news, but will we deport the millions that are already here too?

That is good news! But I don't think we'll deport those that are already here. Except those who are discovered to be illegal immigrants

Another prediction. We'll only really know when terms have been agreed. However, any reduction in immigration from other EU countries will likely be balanced by a lack of ability for UK nationals to go to Europe. That is a loss IMO - I lived and worked in France for 4 years. Brexit may make that very difficult for the next generation.

That is strange why liberal EU is doing that? Are people complaining
Immigration are taking all the jobs or housing cost is becoming really high because of all the Immigration?

What is the reason for it? This is some thing you would think would happen in the US not EU.
If it was possible, I would rather see unemployed Brits deported. To get outcompeted in the labour market by someone of limited skills and limited English shows a complete failure of character (genuine mitigating circumstances aside).

'Net' immigration is an articificial figure, as it falls if numbers leaving the country increase!
If for example there was a surge n Brrtiish students moving abroad to study that would increase the 'emigration' figure and so reduce the 'net immigration' figure.

Students are an issue anyway. Most Brts who go abroad to study will eventually go home, but it seems most foreign students who come here do so for the purpose of permanent iimmigraton.

The figures that matter are those for gross immigration.

No. It's the UK government restricting EU immigration into the UK, not the other way round (although it's likely the EU would have to reciprocate).
Brexit means Brexit, send them all back to where they came from.
Immigration reduction is only possible if we are able to increase the age when we receive state pension to about 75 years of age or reduce the age to which we live.

Because we have had a reducing birth rate with the changes in societal norms the people born post war are now all retired and claiming state pensions. Yet they had less children and their children are having less children. The effect of this is to reduce the number of people paying sufficient tax to cover the expenses of state pensions and public services which are disproportionately utilised by the older members of society.

The only way to reduce the average age of the population and generate enough wealth and tax revenue is to have high immigration. There is no other alternative apart from slashing spending. In other words without immigration it is you and me who will have to work less (earn less and say less tax) to look after our elderly relatives rather than us being able to rely on hard working care workers from outside of the UK to staff our hospitals and nursing homes.

If those one million retired Britis living in Spain decide to come back to the UK it is going to get a whole lot worse and without doctors and nurses coming to work in the NHS we will be in further trouble. It is a vicious cycle and the only way around it is large scale immigration while our birth rate continues to be on the floor.

The argument that immigrants place additional strain on our public services is also without any evidence, they actually enable sufficient spending through their tax contributions.

Why are you always so dim and make claims that are never in your article.

It says
If immigration controls on EU nationals were imposed in mid-2019, there would be zero net migration between the UK and the continent as inflows and outflows would balance each other out, the university's Centre for Business Research forecast.

The report said this would reduce overall annual net migration to Britain to 165,000 from 2020, about half the current figure.

So it only refers to immigration with the EU. Considering we have no idea what is in any agreement as it is yet to be negotiated then this in itself is highly speculative. It doesnt deal with the issue of immigration from non EU countries.

Your claim as usual is a distortion and a lie.

The article mention only control over EU nationals really.
I wouldn't say that it will be reduced around 90% if the statistics are right.

Amen to that. Last sentence sums it up perfectly.
I doubt the tories would be able to even half the current net migration.

This argument is deeply flawed.

Firstly it suggests that we can maintain the age balance of the past i.e. a high proportion of young to old indefinitely, even though that means (and always did mean) an ever swelling population. The only difference is that you are advocating swelling the population by immigration rather than faster breeding. The truth iis NEITHER of these are workable.

For over a century the population has been slowly ageing, as people live longer and family size has reduced.

This is happening across the world too, Latin America, India, Bangladesh, and of course China all have falling birthrates and their population , while still 'young' compared to Europe, is steadily transitioning into an older one..

The solution is not to fight this, by trying to recover the younger demographic of the first half of the 20th century, but to adapt and learn to cope with this ageing shift. We need the world to control population growth, not to encourage it, and the wealthy Western world needs to lead the way in adapting, before the huge populations of China India and Africa begin to experience the same problems.

Growing the population through immigration, while appearing to apply some short term sticking plaster, is actually making the problem far far worse! Its kicking the can down the road for a decade or two.

PS
You grossly exaggerate the number of Britons in Spain, which is around 300,000 of which only around 70,000 are retired. Many young Brits work in Spain and some younger families have settled there too running businesses and so on.

Prioritising positive immigration, rather than indiscriminate open-border policies, seems rather good. Wouldn't you say?

By positive presumably you mean selective, highly skilled?
