I am currently studying AS psychology and I am struggling with the approaches. Does any one have any tips on learning them and writing the exam questions?

I would always recommend ^this^ textbook as it's fantastic and written by the people who helped AQA to create the specification so everything is in there.

I break it down into subcategories (so the behaviourist approach is split into classical/operant conditioning, and Skinner) and learn maybe up to 4 marks worth for those subcategories as they won't be asked for more than that and will likely come up in 6-12 markers. For learning, try to picture what each one stands for. Behaviourism is all about conditioning, SLT is part conditioning but also some choice in there too (role models, etc.), cognitive is all about the brain, and behaviourist is about genes, neurons, and evolution. If you can remember those, you'll likely be able to remember the stuff that is in more detail as it's kind of just commong sense after that.

Behaviourism = conditioning = Skinner's Box/Little Albert
SLT = conditioning + choice = Bandura's Bobo Doll
Cognitive = brains = MRIs and PET scans
Biological = genetics/neurons/evolution = (no studies really... just that)

When writing in the exams, it might just say something like "Discuss the behaviourist approach (12)". For that, it's 6 for description and 6 for evaluation (so don't ignore evaluations!!). Think about each little subcategory (conditioning + Skinner's Box/Little Albert) and write 3-4 marks worth for those. So describe classical/operant conditioning, and then say how a study (or studies) was used to display this. And then just evaluate as normal.
