When I left my previous job I got a few people (including ladies) come up to me and say 'no way you're leaving' and stuff like that. I just said yes I am and got on with my job on my last shift whilst secretly thinking 'thank **** I'm leaving this ****hole'. I'm leaving my current job within the next couple of months and I can't wait to leave that either. Don't go around over doing it with the hugs and stuff. You're not getting married just yet.

Given your relationship with them, I'd say just say, just to let you know I'm leaving ect, and that's it. If someone wants to hug you or whatever then that's fine, just don't initiate it if you're not comfortable with it. It is an awkward situation to be tbf, so just let everyone know and see what they do, if do nothing then just leave it at that.

You said it yourself, they're are work friends and that's it so there isn't any need to hug them or whatever unless they initiate it. It would be nice to take in some chocolates or whatever, but if not it's fine.

Assuming you're a guy: as a general rule, shake hands with all guys, hug girls you're friendly with, but if they're just vaguely present in the office with you probably shake hands as well.

But you should know the environment at your office better than randoms on the internet tbh. If it's very professional and formal, hand shakes for everyone.
