What is your review of The Garden Halls? (Intercollegiate hall)

I think you'll be fine! Looking at the rooms, they dont look the biggest but compared to other LSE accommodation they look a lot brighter and nicer in my opinion. For me, I was also worried about the possibility of socialising with other LSE people but I kind of decided it would be nice to have friends from other unis as well as LSE. You'll have friends from LSE through your classes and societies anyway! What course are you doing?

yo! a couple of my coursmates are at garden halls so i've been there :smile: really nice facilities and yes rooms are ensuite, but there are shared showers. the kitchens are massive as they cater for about 17 people, so with so many people in the flat it's usually going to be quite social! even though it is intercollegiate, the majority of students staying there are UCL. also, it's brand new and very modern! as far as i know it's as social as all the other halls too! hope this helps :smile:


Hey, can you please tell me that if a hall (for example, the Garden Halls) says it is catered, will there be enough facilities for a person to cook on her own? I chose a single ensuite in Garden Halls yesterday. The LSE form says it is catered, will there be an accessible kitchen?

Hii! I want to apply for Gardens Hall as well but I am quite confused what price range I should put. I want a single ensuite room and it is about 250 pounds. May i ask what price range you put when you applied? Thanks!!

I just applied to Garden Halls and I'm going to be studying at SOAS.. Sorta worried now though because so many people here are asking about socializing with students from their own uni? Idk but in my opinion the point of Intercollegiate halls is that you get to socialize with students from different universities as well!
Hi; i currently live in GH. You have chosen a catered room, therefore you do not have cooking facilities. You do have a small kitchen between about 30 people, but this is designed to make drinks and snack etc, not cook.

I am a postgrad but things change so I am not sure.

Regarding noise, that is very personal. In my opinion it's not loud enough!

Hi Chris,

The Townhouses are part of the normal hall. They are brand new. They have a front door onto the street, but these are used as fire doors only and are alarmed. You must enter/exit through the normal hall main entrance.

Can you say anything about the differences between a room of one of the townhouses and a "normal" room in the Garden Halls? In my application I can only choose between "Townhouse" and "Standard Superior rooms" of Garden Halls. Sounds like only the rooms are a bit difference, but you can access everything from the garden halls like the cinema room etc. easily from both type of rooms, right?

TO clarify, the cinema room has been broken since February.. there quick to fix things here!.

Townhouse rooms share a bathroom (nice double shower etc) between two people (thats what I am in).

Standard superior rooms are in the Hughes Parry Tower next door. They have their own toilets and sinks, but communal showers. The rooms are the same size for both, though the Std. Superior rooms feel tiny as a chunk of the room is the bathroom. furthermore they have single beds (who wants that!)

Between the two, I'd chose Townhouse without a doubt.

You would generally recommend them for postgrad students, right? For me Garden Halls seems to be the only student hall that I want to apply to. Alternatively I'm going to search for a private shared flat, I think. The advantage of Garden Halls seems to be the easy contact to other students.

I also want to chose "self-catered". Are the kitchens good for both types of rooms (standard superior and townhouse), do you know?

Also: How long can I have overnight visitors in Garden Halls? And are they really strict with partying? Is it allowed to drink alcohol in Garden Halls? Also in the community rooms?

I'm worried i might have left it too late, seeing as some people had already booked their place in March.. :/

Me too, my college (Courtauld Institute of Art) only sent us accommodation forms last week ! ridiculous really aha but I hope this doesnt mean I wont get a place

Hi, I'm a mature international graduate student (UCL) thinking of applying here.

Can somebody tell me what's the rough ratio of UG to PG students here? Is it a fair mix or is it mainly a UG hall of residence?
