17 year old Muslim girl abducted and murdered outside a mosque in Virginia

Her body was later found in a pond a few days after she had been reported missing. Read about it here or here.

Police have completely dismissed any possibility of it being a hate crime.

He'll most likely plead insanity, it'll be branded a sporadic/isolated incident, and the whole thing will promptly disappear into the archives.

If we're going to learn anything from incidents like these, we must first have an awareness of them.

And If anyone is interested, the community in Virginia are fundraising to support her family during this time.

This is vile. I wonder how he got radicalised.

That's terrible but there's no evidence it was a hate crime? This could have happened to anybody

This is truly shocking and may she rest in peace. My heart goes out to her family and friends. :frown:

If a Muslim committed such a crime, Islam would take the blame as always, but if a non-Muslim committed a crime, then 'it's okay, he/she is mentally unstable folks' and the media would cover it up and people would have already forgotten about it.

Honestly this is ridiculous and it saddens me how people are capable of such heinous crimes.
lmao unless anyone can prove he said something racist before attacking them (they can't), this isn't racially motivated nor religious. So why are they trying to make it out to be so? Are Muslims special people? Who can't be harmed or hated unless it's a hate crime? Please. It's just a random girl got assaulted like any other random white, black, etc girl would be.

Nobody but the killer himself knows the true motive, but it's a little disheartening to say the least that the police who are responsible for investigating the murder won't even entertain the idea that it may have been a hate crime.

just because it's not a hate crime doesn't mean she won't get justice such as an investigation or trial...

Nobody ever says this. Yes, isolated incidents get forgotten about unlike many incidents with a common denominator, but nobody ever dismisses something like this.

Who said they didn't entertain the idea? It sounds like they considered the evidence, and came to the conclusion that it wasn't a hate crime.

No its not.She wears a hijab so the fact she is Muslim is clearly visible and it would not be wrong to assume this is why she was targeted just like the way someone attacking two guys holding hands can be assumed to be homophobic even though the perpetrator may not say why they are doing it.its not rocket science.
Muslims aren't a race so your use of racist is invalid .

It's not about "trying to make it out to be" a hate crime, it's about the police's complete dismissal of the very thought.

You hit the nail on the head in your first sentence "unless anyone can prove"...yes exactly, until all facts have been established, all avenues should be explored including all possible motives for the crime....is that really such a big thing to ask of the police?

... I'm saying what's clearly written:

that it wasn't a hate crime because women of all races and religions and ages are vulnerable to violence from strange men . How does saying this isn't a hate crime minimise that she was murdered...? It's almost as if you think no one would care otherwise so you desperately claim something as ridiculous as a hate crime clearly without knowing what "hate crime" means for attention or to legitimise something that is murder regardless lol.

I'm sorry, when and where was this dismissed? And I doubt the justice system would ignore a murder lol. The media might but not the justice system, are you having a laugh?
(edited 6 years ago)
They are trying to allude this to a hate crime as well in the article you linked:

"wearing garbs"

"just finished ramadan"

even mentioning that she's Muslim..

it's all a clear obvious attempt at making this seem like it's a racially/religiously motivated thing by inserting irrelevant things about her background. Pathetic, when a woman was murdered regardless, a person was murdered regardless. And people with their own motives want to bicker that it's a hate crime. Hate crime or not, a tragedy has happened, but social justice warriors never use their brains, only their emotions, and argue about what's not important.
