B3 unofficial mark scheme

Lets start a mark scheme

1) Species 2
b) C
c) Co-evolution between moths and orchid
4) Moth gets more nectar to itself/food

2) Keeps them safe increasing chance of survival
b) Primrose flowers are short day plants, helps them get pollinated by right insects.
c) Caterpillars will not get eaten by the prey increasing chance of survival

PROGESTERONE MULTIPLE CHOICE
-Produced in the corpus luteum

Horse question
-Operant conditioning
-I wrote something along the lines they become habituated they learn that the stimulus is no longer harmful or beneficial through trainers continuously exposing them towards the flags.

Multiple choice question on ADH
- A

The placebo injection didn't contain antigens. Explain why the placebo injection was used in this trial.
Allows comparison, to show the effect of the immunisation

Punnet square question on haemophilia
25%

UREA is produced in the liver due to the breakdown of excess amino acids

YEAST MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
-sucrose - glucose + fructose

YEAST QUESTION
-saccharomyces cerevisiae

MATHS QUESTION ON IMMUNISATION SECTION
-Personally I got the answer wrong, lots of controversy on whether the answer is 48 and 24.
-Personally I believe it's 24 as it clearly states groups were split equally.

1st six marker
Primary produces less antibodies as it takes longer for the B-lymphocytes to produce antibodies.
However, it leaves memory lymphocytes behind.
secondary infection, the memory lymphocytes produces a lot more in the SAME TIME (2 days) before we see the graph falling. IT takes longer for the graph to fall (the antibodies to lower) due to the abudnce of antibodies in the blood.
primary response first infection of pathogen in body
immune response is formed as lymphocytes divide and antibodies bind to the antigen
destroy the pathogen, then memory lymphocytes are in the blood.
A rapid secondary response is triggered with 2nd infection
memory lymphocytes
rapid response of lots of antibodies to destroy the pathogen, most likely before symptoms can be felt.

HOW IS VEGETARIAN CHEESE PRODUCED? (4 MARKS)
- made using CHYMOSIN
- produced by GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
- CHYMOSIN initiating CLOTTING
-Chymosin and yeast production in fermenters
- REDUCED use of RENNET (which is extracted from animals)

2nd six marker
lactose converted by lactase to glucose and galactose
sodium alginate
calcium chloride
Keep the milk with the beads for around 15 minutes and at 40 degrees celcius. These are the optimum conditions.
nylon guaze and syringe beads are put in
Glucose test strip
lactose encapsulated in beads
glucose test strip shows it has been converted to glucose and galactose

Transgenic plant question
Restriction enzyme
Ligases enzyme
Sticky ends
Vector
Infects plant so DNA incorporated into plant
crown galls

This is what I have so far, if you could help me remember the question I can write more.

There was one calculation question with 1600 people in to two groups...? and the following question about why the placebo injection was used (which didn't have antigens). Also the question about yeast for invertase which was saccharomyces cerevisiae (i couldn't think of that during the exam :/)

Do you know the placebo question? Maybe that way I can help to answer it??
Can you remember any of the questions? If yeah then i might be able to think of the answers i put

Yeah I said it is a control group for comparison

Also do you remember your answer for the calculation?
Thanks for mark scheme

1600? dang i wrote it as 16000.
for the cheese question i talked about restriction enzymes and split ends... well damn. I pray i get a B at the very least, this was my worse paper by far. Never again will i sleep for just a mere 30mins through out the whole day - i've already slept for 10 hours straight.:s-smilie:

There was one question on ADH which was box A and another question on how and where is urea produced. I put its t
Poduced at the liver because it breaks down excess amino acids

I also mentioned how it was made using yeast and grown in a fermenter etc I believe you will get some marks for that answer.

Wait, the question was about how enzymes are used in vegetarian cheese? I think I wrote about restriction enzyme and ligase enzyme too :/
Which was the question on ADH ?

It asked how it was made, it is made using restriction enzymes etc how you make Agrobacterium, except this is with yeast and chymosin. If you wrote how it was made I'm sure you'll get marks

The answer was A, as permeability increases the other decreases.
I can't remember the phrasing of it well but it was A
