Christians increasingly being persecuted in China

According to a new report from US-based NGO Freedom House, persecution of Chinese Christians and other faith groups has "intensified" in recent years.
"Combining both violent and nonviolent methods, the (Communist) Party's policies are designed to curb the rapid growth of religious communities and eliminate certain beliefs and practices," the report said.
Its release comes amid hot speculation over whether the Vatican and Beijing will strike a potentially historic deal on the ordination of Chinese bishops, ending decades of frosty ties.

Christianity is growing rapidly in China and the Communist party is worried that it's people will start worshipping God instead of them so they are persecuting Christians. It's estimated that hundreds of thousands convert to Christianity in China every year. Since 1949, Christianity has grown by 63 million people which is fantastic but it involves challenges not found in Western countries.

And demolitions of some churches in one province, removal of crosses from other churces.

It isn't like they are arresting people solely for being Christians.

And the government doesn't register places of worship that they don't like. That's persecution.

China has only developed due to the communists party's shunning of religion. The party knows that if people mindlessly believe a false book then then they will block out the glorious propaganda of the people party.

How "free" are individuals growing up in deeply religious Muslim or Christian areas? Where lifestyle choice will be judged by members of the community? Where they have no outside influences because their schools and neighbourhood are all filled with these religious types? Where they get shamed, blackmailed and threatened for deviating from the religious norm?

Doesn't sound very free at all. Not to mention the toxic subcultures that develop in these areas from lack of integration with the rest of the country.

Yet these communities go totally unchecked and these incidents persist because of how difficult it is to seek help as a victim as well as how difficult the solutions are to implement. Swarms of the religious come out crying that their religion is under attack if anything is attempted to help those people. Religious communities have demonstrated for long enough that they're incapable of solving their problems themselves, so they can't be allowed to form their own sub-societies anymore.

I think it's quite disgusting that you ignore the blackmail and shaming culture of religious communities to force everyone to follow their beliefs. Let them live their lives and express their lack of faith.

Yeah, it sucks. China's government has seen certain religions as backward tool to them. Recently, China has been pushing out the Uyghur language and there are talks of an Uyghur crackdown (I don't think that will happen though).

It reminds me of something. Polish people overthrew the communist party mostly thanks to Christianity. Is there a chance for democracy in China? Maybe someday... :smile:
