I guess it's sometimes best to just step back from everything and try and comfort yourself with things that you like doing. The world won't seem so bad once you've distracted yourself for a while.

For example, I often listen to my favourite songs, go for walks or even gym during the middle of the night because it's the best time for a stress/emotional release after a tough day :h:
