Is the Dark web real?

He said Dark Web, Not Deep Web

Most of the websites there are illegal to even visit without TOR

So, may I clarify, is it a crime to simply even visit the Dark Web (but without buying anything)?

Simply an example, but say someone watches a snuff video or something, is that 'acceptable'?

It's real; created by the CIA so that they could have an untraceable/anonymous form of communication, but in order to make it truly anonymous they had to make it public. It can be accessed through TOR, but because it's anonymous, this means that a whole heck ton of illegal stuff can take place and it's very difficult to catch the culprits. So if you decide to go exploring, be careful.

Really? The CIA made it? That sounds like absolute *******s.

The Dark web is merely the non indexed part of the internet e.g. how do you connect to a webpage if you don't know the address or IP?

it's not illegal to just browse it

True, but you will draw a lot of attention to yourself if you do. Just watch some documentaries on it if you're curious.

pretty sure it's not illegal to just browse, there's no laws stopping anyone from doing so. If you actually take part in any illegal activity on there that's a different story

There are 3 parts of the Web.

Surface Web: makes up 4% of the internet. It is everything indexed by search engines. That's Google, Facebook, wiki, reddit etc. This is what you think of as "the internet"

Deep web: Not accessible from Google. Hosts hidden side of the internet. Includes whistleblowers, conspiracies, hidden chat rooms

Dark web: The real dark part of the web. Well hidden at the bottom of the deep web. For example child porn, hitmen and silk road drugs.

The last 2 are only accessible through TOR. From my own experience and that of others I would stay away unless you are a real techie and don't want to be mentally scared

Also: private trackers, secret bulletin-boards, secure webcam feeds, webmail inboxes, and literally any other password-protected resource by default. To suggest that the 'deep web' requires Tor is incorrect; the term simply describes everything not visible to the public—as opposed to the 'dark web', whose contents are indeed restricted to VPN.

It is not illegal to visit it and you most likely won't get into trouble as I said before, there are certain websites that will get you into trouble upon visit. Especially the FBI honey pots.

A lot of people say the dark web is just a conspiracy theory (it's different from the deep web)

I don't doubt that websites like that could and do exist, just that they would get found and shut down pretty quickly.

yes, for example here is a link which sells fake UK passports (i changed one letter so you don't get into any trouble, so pretty much the link doesn't work)

http://tfqnd6mieccqyiit.onion/

of course if you paste that into chrome, or firefox it won't work, and it if it did it would be very easy for you to be tracked, GCHQ could put a tamper into the server and could find all of the nodes that connect to that specific server. Tor uses a proxy based system, which rotates every time you log on, eg; one minute you could be have a Saudi Arabian IP looking at firearms, next you could have a Canadian looking at cocaine. The worst enemy of Tor is the CIA funnily enough, and as others tell you, it wasn't created by them, it was created by the US Navy Research division. Tor then became open source, and it was heavily funded by the US Government, to protect the NSA and other surveillance teams.
Tor is probably the safest browser you can use, but it can also be the most dangerous browser you can use. If you click on the wrong link on Tor, it could be CP, Animal Cruelty or it could just be a guy eating a bowl of soup while someone pats him on the back

i'd suggest to watch this one in the morning, if you don't like disturbing content, but i'm pretty sure you'll click on it anyway, as curiosity kills the cat.

also, there is a web below the dark web i was told about some time, but i have forgotten the name of it. if anyone remembers it please tell me, i'm pretty interested in it.

Curiosity indeed kills the cat. Thank you! You're great! Your post is informative and since I'm inexperienced with even proxy servers, probably best to start on videos and meeting up with people, so I can actually learn more.

@pessim Think someone said it's called the Mariana's Web, apparently 'worse' than the dark web. A little research- some say it's a myth, others say a 'frightening reality'. Interesting to research nonetheless.

yh my friend told me about silk road and I researched it
she told me about TOR too but won't show me how to use it or how to change something to tails :s-smilie:

Just don't go on the deep web especially as you seem to have no idea about it. I'm pretty ****ing good with computers and know enough to (probably) safetly browse the dark web but I'm not taking the risk,

Just use someone else's computer. That's what I did. (the public library's)
