I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with porn, but some porn is problematic, and it's hard to tell good from bad. Sometimes the women are coerced or taken advantage of, but you would have no idea based on the video. It's also easy for some people to get hooked on porn or to start watching more and more extreme videos.

On the other hand, there are some concerns about porn I think aren't particularly problematic. For example, the use of porn in a relationship I think is reasonable. Another example is that porn objectifies women - I think porn does objectify women, but I don't think all objectification is bad. In this case, there's simply no way around it, because the pleasure the viewer gets is derived almost entirely on what the girl looks like and what she's doing. Giving porn actresses personalities and back stories would be ridiculous, and people would skip it anyway to get to the good stuff.

I don't know if this just means gay people do it better, but having interviews with the actors is very common in gay porn.

What about the people who are forced into porn? Orntricked?

Plus it's very easy to cover up bruises abuse etc pretty much all porn stars are horrifically abused.

You really think they signed up for that?

People are forced into working in many service industry all over the world, so why single out porn?

That's not true for all porn.

That's not true for ALL industries. You get beggars trafficked to beg, you get factory workers kidnapped and enslaved etc.

Oh really? Actually, if some people have a favourite actress, I could imagine they might want to know more about her.

I don't see anything morally wrong with porn. But I don't think it's exactly good for you psychologically and I doubt there are any real benefits to it looking at it. It's all mindless fluff and most people's lives wouldn't be much different without it.
The porn industry is not well regulated and it tends to treat its actors very poorly. By watching its produce, you fund that mistreatment.

I know very well which ridiculous pseudo-science talk you have been watching.

Porn addiction is a thing, just like work addiction or orange juice addiction or any addiction is. And addictions are bad.

But this doesn't mean porn is any worse than anything else that could cause addiction.

All those "chemicals" stuff is just pseudo-science, the same as how vaccines are apparently bad because they contain "chemicals" in them.

Our brains don't have a problem handling those chemicals. If you have "too much" of them, you are an addict. It's not porn that's the problem, but the addiction that is.

Or else you're saying because some people are addicted to food and eat way too much, we all should just stop eating.

Idk what you're chatting about pal. You'd need a Phd in neuroscience and then read your brain on porn book, brain which changes itself, various other studies and books and ted talks etc all of which are backed up with tonnes reference of solid research to even begin to say no it's all pseudo-science. It's typical porn addict chat.

Yes, practically all gay porn that don't offer a story line contain an interview before and/or after the scene. Even some with a plot still have sort of a reflection, debriefing stage. They got interviewed about where they're from, how they got into porn, what they do, how they feel about the scene, how they feel about the partner etc.

I will repeat this one last time: all those studies show harm when there is addiction already. You can get addicted to anything.

I do have a master's degree from Oxford that is neuroscience-related, so I guess the question is who are you to dismiss me?

Also, Ted talks are not necessarily academic and lots of pseudo-science pretends to have studies behind them - look at tapping or toxins. They just do it in a misleading manner just like how the rubbish you have been exposed to misled you with data from addicts to say all porn watching are bad.

If you actually want to go academic, I am open to offering a critique or explanation to a study you have found. But please stop with your character assassination.
Pornography is rape on tape, it should be 100% illegal. It's disgusting how liberals see it as some "progressive", "liberating" thing.

Do you use any products made in a developing country? Look at the labels - are they made in China? India? Bangladesh? Vietnam? Cambodia? Indonesia?

Do you think the workers are treated any better than porn stars, most of whom work in the developed countries of the US, Japan, Czech Republic, and maybe the UK and France?

Do you even know what rape is?
Addictions, inability to get aroused without porn, get sucked more and more into the dodgy stuff etc.

Classic whataboutery. I'm not inclined to excuse bad working conditions because worse working conditions exist.

That's not what my question was. My question was to point out your hypocrisy. It's much, much more likely that your smart phone or pants or pen was made by people who were effectively enslaved than the porn you watch being acted out by people who were forced into it.

There may not be that many specific regulations regarding the industry, but there are general labour laws applied. Ever if you are really worried about consuming a product that was made through unethical means, you should still be comfortable watching pornography from the developed world, where labour laws exist and are enforced.

The reason why the flaws of the porn industry are exaggerated and singled out is because western culture is still deeply rooted in a sexually repressed culture, and people cannot cope with the fact that sex can be celebrated. And so they either make up facts out of thin air (like saying things like porn leads people to rape children - I guess Catholic priests watch them all the time then?), or they focus on exceptional cases (like how there's this one porn star who might have gotten HIV from a scene, when in fact that's a much lower prevalence rate than in real life).

I find it to be disgusting, and that's why I avoid it.

The trouble is that it's harder for young men, as before pawn we used to buy lads mags, which were less degrading and only had scantily clad women. Now, the problem with pawn is that it negatively affects the way a lot of people view sex, and other individuals. For example, it creates unnatural expectations of how big one's junk should be, and what their partners need to do to satisfy them. The pawn industry is also rife with abuse, with young women having to take lots of drugs to numb the pain brought on from their experience in the industry. Then there are pimps (or contract stars) who don't treat the female performers with respect, due to the unhealthy power that they have within the industry.

I also read an article about how pawn re-wires the brain, and decreases your memory and reduces your cognitive function. Therefore, I recommend young men avoid it like the plague. Unfortunately, with a combination of the destruction of the nuclear family, and feminists taking away our lads mags, a lot of young men are having to resort to pawn, and casual hookups to fulfill their sexual needs.

I'm curious I was looking at something yesterday someone was trying to shame men who watch porn or say that porn degrades women? But what I don't get is don't women and men watch porn? I thought porn was like masturbation etc... I mean I thought it was only natural to like watch. I am actually a virgin and in my mid to early 20's by choice. But have always watched porn since I was 15 and the porn I watched never had women in it to begin with it. So I don't see how it degrades women? Also does porn degrade men too then? Especially men on men porn? I remember when I was younger than 15 I still managed to find a way to find pornographic material. as young as 13 I believe. I don't see how one would say though it's terrible to be one who watches porn? And how is porn wrong for women or men?those who watch or those who make it for that matter?
