Why isn't it? We're not talking about adults here. The legislation is aimed at the protection of minors.

This is what I can't stand about libertarians - they think that everyone should be exposed to anything because they want to be.

This legislation is retarded. Most teens seek this kind of thing out and the fact that they're defining adult as 18 in this matter is beyond a joke. Biologically, adulthood is achieved before 18 in many cases (the ability to procreate) and therefore you're going to see people of that age wanting to view this kind of material. Kind of suppressing any freedom that is left in this country.

Then again, this verification will be a joke. Anybody with a brain knows how to get around this kind of thing. It's like how you're supposed to be over 18 to play GTA, yet my parents bought that for me when I was like 7 years old (as I'm sure many other people's did).
Just use Tor, people.
Time to move to a different country.

The government are very sneakily trying to forge a generation of computer whizzes.

If only! You wanna make Britain great again? Invest in tech education.

Sorry if it sounds patronising, but I'm genuinely sorry that your parents bought GTA for you when you were 7 - it wasn't in your interests for them to do that and I think that although it may feel OK to you, in the long run, you won't think so.

Having said that, I would imagine even parents who think an extremely violent adult videogame is fine for their little tots would hesitate to license them to view hardcore porn sites.

But it seems to me that the solution to this would be to provide proper sex and relationship education that acknowledges that sex is fun but also talks about loving relationships of all hues and colours.

Too sensible; would never catch on.
Don't most places do this already? I remember one of my friends getting a random house share after we graduated and his housemate had the "mature content" filter on. Rather than have an embarrassing conversation he just got a VPN.

Anyone who's ever used a computer for 5 minutes knows how to circumvent blocks like this. It'll be about as effective as the supposed ban on certain popular torrent sites 4 years ago. They were back online as if nothing happened within 4 seconds.

If there's a will, there's a way.

*If there's a willy there's a way...

Just kidding, girls watch it too:smile:
So they try to ban encryption at the same time as trying to get people to give over their credit card details to porn sites?

seems smart

Phew I'm nearly 18

Pretty sure this won't happen. Weren't the government suppose to bad porn last year?

It's part of the digital economy act which is already passed I think.
Haven't they got anything better to do like arresting the 23000+ Jihadhis we know about- that will be a better use of our tax money.

The obvious solution is to link it to National Insurance records, but then the libertarians would be shouting about big brother.

People need to get real and stop imagining the internet is some kind of modern mockup version of Dodge City and that anything goes. It doesn't.

Or parents can do it which is currently what happens.

Instead, they are going to create an expensive alternative that will leave people's details prone to hacking.

Tons of porn, we used it in uni halls to bypass their stupid porn block.

I don't think it is that big a problem.

I got around the porn block at a rented property. It was hilariously easy, but I don't think Virgin media cared too much. THey just had to...comply (ie: the landlord opted out of porn)
Good. Porn can be so degrading and addictive. Can't imagine what the effect is on young people who constantly watch it.
a good step forward.

If it's anything like the current safe settings used by ISPs you can just change http:// to https:// and fap yourself senseless. People should be allowed to do what they want without having to ask mummy May.
People can easily pirate movies and music, what makes you think they wont do the same with porn. Stupid idea that will probably waste quite a bit of tax payer's money to try and achieve.
