More and more are getting 1st degrees

Will this mean a 1st degree will be average in a few years making it not so special to employers?

1st class degrees already aren't special to many employers, the minimum for a graduate job is a 2:1. They'll look at work experience after you meet that requirement.

This makes sense but is also a shame that the work that gets you a first is the same as a 2:1

Pretty sure you have to work harder to get a first, and it does help with getting a job just not much.

Unfortunately this is life, if you get your first then well done, it's more of a personal achievement and if you do get it then you should be really happy! Having said that, getting a 2:1 without any experience will still be a dealbreaker for employers if you were to apply.
