Sprinting Times

I think there's another running thread but the majority who post there are long distance athletes, unlike me and hopefully a fair few others on here. Therefore thought of an idea to create a thread where we can track, excuse the pun, our sprinting progress and hopefully provide help to others.

I'll start

100m PB : 10.58 - track (13/08/17)
10.81 - field (03/08/17)

Apparently for a 19 year old this is pretty good, though it is self-timed and strictly speaking not on a proper athletics track, the field next to my house to be precise! When my dad timed me I ran it in 11.29. The ground isn't entirely flat, I don't have spikes (rugby boots) and there are a few holes here and there. Also my start is pretty awful.

What your height weight bf%? What's your goal time? Work on 40 yard sprints at max anaerobic effort instead if you're looking to improve 100m.

6'4'' 106kg around 20%. I don't know, doubt I'll ever break 10 so maybe 10.5? My start is complete garbage :u: I occasionally do 40m incline sprints plus plyo drills. Rugby not Handegg mate

Shît man that's great, get down to 95kg at 13%ish and you might go faster

For the athletics sure but for the rugby season my current size is better. Plus strength is maintained!

People tend to exaggerate times on the internet but I'l be pure honest. My pb is 14.4 for 100m which for a female is not fast I know. I blame my short height. This is with a bit of training too lol. Ive been entered for races (just for points) and im usually last or near last. However despite not being the fastest Ive got more speed than endurance. Id love to get under 14 secs for 100m even though im pushing on age 30 im hoping to win a few veteren races when i get past age 35 as most have given up with sprinting by that age lol.

The PB is hand timed so I expect a ~0.4 second increase but then again I don't run on a proper track nor with blocks or even spikes. 14s isn't bad at all for that age, unless you've been training all your life. And height isn't a major factor, think of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

You're getting some good times here, considering the conditions. As an ex rugby and rowing boy, I know how much work goes into improving performance like this. Well done

On a proper track, timed by my mate (who trained with me), glorious conditions.

10.80
10.58
10.40 (this must have been a false start?!)

PB's all round 😆

Margins in sprinting are very, very fine indeed, and I don't think most outside the world of track and field athletics realise just how fine until they start competing.

In school, I used to hear "a second is a lot of time in a sprint". Understatement of the year. A tenth of a second is bloody huge.

If you have run 10.58, then congratulations and I doff my cap because you're in the top ~65 of men in the UK rankings this year.
