Climate change could cook us all alive

This article in New York (link) has been doing the rounds, discussing the harsh reality of where climate change could take us over the next century, even the next couple of decades. If you've not read it already I really do recommend you do. The affects of climate change on our species and others are myriad. Low crop yields caused by baking temperatures and high humidity, causing death and (much to the presumed displeasure of conservative governments worldwide) mass migration on several fronts; rising sea levels and even warnings of plagues trapped in the son-to-melt ice.

With such stark warnings, why are governments still not taking this as a priority? Why are business owners and the wider public not engaging with projects and actions to reduce pollution? I find it bizarre and terrifying how so few people seem to be mortally terrified of the results of humanities actions.

This doesn't just affect some pretty little fishies in coral reefs, this really could wipe us out.

20 years ago they predicted similar, here we are not under water not burnt to a crisp due to very high temperatures :rolleyes:

Well we've been feeding CAGW alarmist trolls for how long now? Most people are barely competent to discuss the science on the topic. How would you even know whether he is right or not? It isn't even conspiracy that these 'experts' have a track record of saying what the government wants people to hear, to serve its agendas, which at the moment involve increasing taxation through half-arsed schemes without a hope of succeeding, because XYZ group of "scientists" (really, some political body speaking on their behalf) put out some tortured, highly manipulated PR statement saying so.

this thread is almost a month old... did you search a topic where you knew it would be provocative if you said something controversial (and stupid) and dig it up just to troll?

Daring to question the consensus on global warming is not trolling. Well informed people will know that scientists use to push global cooling.

opposing the consensus from the scientific community based on an overwhelming amount of evidence that demonstrates anthropogenic climate change and global warming is a fact and is a serious threat to the upcoming generations (and the younger generations already alive)... for no other reason than "it's a conspiracy" (as if as soon as you become a scientist you become a member of the "left-wing lets take over the world club") is not "daring"... it's stupid.

The consensus is based on data that we know was manipulated.

This is indeed true. But we are also resilient and able to deal with issues as they arise. I thing global warming is inevitable but I believe we will find innovative ways of coping with it.

No, it's based on data that anti environmentalist ideologues like Christoper Booker and James Delingpole wrongly claim is "manipulated". This whole "scientific scandal" thing is just a baseless conspiracy theory. The climate change denial "movement" has a history of pushing misleading stuff out there and sometimes just outright lying.

Climategate was a completely manufactured so called "scandal". It was investigated and no wrongdoing happened, no faking of data, nothing. Climate change deniers just selectively quoted little bits of email out of context to make it look like it did, when really they were just discussing legitimate scientific techniques. You might call it "fake news".

I can tell you're just a troll, but I'm pointing this out because there are unfortunately people out there (including this forum) who really believe this stuff. Somehow.

Why did the powers that shouldn't be change the title from Man-Made Global Warming to Climate Change? They did that when the temperature started going down again.

It is still colder than it was in the year 1000. We are still emerging from the 'Little Ice Age' that began around 1300. There will probably be another 'Little Ice Age' some centuries in the future. It is a natural cycle due to the sun.

They didn't.

Global warming and climate change are both long established terms, both have been in common use in scientific books and studies for many decades.

They also mean slightly different things - global warming just refers to the long term rise in temperature, climate change refers to all the effects on climate that this could have. Getting warmer is global warming, that warming having impacts on rainfall patterns for example is climate change.

No one has changed the title at all, it's another one of these rather common myths.
The Holocaust was made up to facilitate the creation of a Jewish state;
Smoking tobacco does not cause lung cancer;
The United States never landed astronauts on the Moon;
Princess Diana was murdered by the British Government;
9/11 was an inside job to start a war in the Middle East;
Climate change is a myth pronged by left wing scientists to justify increased taxation and loss of liberty.
Flight MH17 was shot down by Ukraine to gain Western support;

Lady Diana might still be alive, along with David Bowie and Alan Rickman.
