How did you get diagnosed and who recognised it initially? (e.g did a teacher notice it and refer you or did you bring it up with your GP yourself?)

Hope that's not too intrusive to ask, just curious.
How difficult was it to get meds? And do they actually help with concentration?
Me too. What medication are you on and what side effects have you experienced?

I tried to get diagnosed at university but the GP there told "ADHD doesn't exist" lol. Ended up quitting uni and I've been going to a surgery in Bristol instead. The mental health nurse here diagnosed me. I would have been put on a 8 month waiting list to see a specialist but he liked me so he diagnosed me himself by seeing me every 2 weeks.

Not difficult. Just need to be diagnosed first. The dude told me that they can make non-ADHD people psychotic so thats why you need to be diagnosed first.

I've been taking sertraline which is an antidepressent. There were side affects when I first took it. Felt like I was stoned for a few weeks. Now I don't really notice any side effects.

For the ADHD I've been given methylphenidate hydrochloride, aka ritilin. Haven't really noticed any side effects. I'm still not sure if it even does anything lol. Tried taking 3 pills at once and I'm still not sure if it helps or not lmao.

I'm experiencing severe mood swings and I feel depressed. So, I don't know what to do. I'm on the same medication as you, although the brand name is Concerta.
how do you manage to refocus when you lose concentration?

ye I think I've been a bit more depressed since I started taken them actually. Used to go to the gym every other day but since I started taking the ADHD meds I pretty much haven't been because I cba.

And I feel a bit like punching stuff when I'm trying to hug my family sometimes. And I keep thinking, 'why am I thinking that?'

I've only had them for a few weeks. I'm supposed to go back for a medication review to change the dose or whatever but the nurse is on holiday atm.

I don't leave my room, if I'm honest. I lie in bed feeling really low now and I have chest pains as well as headaches. I really don't know what to do, my review is next week and I'm going to make sure something changes because I'm at the end of my tether. It's the anger that's bothering me most. At least someone else understands.

lol when I was at uni I'd take drugs to finish long assignments.

Or I'd play a video game for 20 mins. Do 5 mins work, then 20 mins on the game again, and do that all night/day till my work was finished. Used to take a lot of breaks to work out as well because I brought my bench and weights with me to uni.

One of the only things I can focus on consistently is compeitive gaming. I used to be a world champion in a mod on warcraft 3 when I was a teenager. I'm trying to do that again on league of legends, since I get bored too easily at everything else. And my time management + organisation sucks.

ye I haven't left my house in over 2 weeks. The gym was the only thing I left the house for. Going to try and go outside tomorrow.

I've been getting headaches too but it's not everyday and I was thinking it was because I wasn't sleeping enough. They go away when I take ibuprofen.

Post in my thread if you get different meds we can compare them when we've had the review changes
