To anyone who says it's too early to start this thread

stfu please ((:

Whilst you were too busy playing Pokemon and chatting **** at our age. Some of us have bigger dreams.

It's not too early to be thinking about university if you've finished your GCSEs honestly (:

Don't be letting anyone tell you you're too young to have high ambitions like Cambridge and Oxford. Just be glad we aren't part of the generation who have goals to be strippers and are okay with a standard job. The whole point of this thread is anyone who has ambitions to go to a top university, should come here. Yes, no one is guaranteed a place a uni like this. But it's the aspiration that counts. Things like this push people to want to work harder.

Yes, the point is to get inspired and get chatting  there's barely such a thing as too early, or even too late unless you miss the application deadline. It's fine though, despite the posts on the first page I think this thread will have more activity now that we're all going into sixth form and starting to think about specialising more. So what are you thinking of applying for? :h:
I do admire you all for your ambition with such a thread. Sadly, though, I'm not that much of a person. I bet you all are amazing in terms of academics and most of you will end up in Cambridge. My dad says those with the furthest ambitions are the ones who will be driven the most and amongst the top academic students. I also will apply for Oxbridge though I think getting in is slightly out of reach. But hey, anything is possible so why not try?!
Hi! What GCSE grades are people here hoping for? I don't mean this in a bragging way (it's genuinely what I think and hope I might get), but I'm hoping for 988A^A*A*A*A*A*AA or so. I hope that the grade 9 (of which I hope to achieve) will put me in a fairly good position for 2019 entry :u:
I'm hoping for a MINIMUM of 5A*s and 5A's. I live in Northern Ireland so we don't have numbered grades like you do in England.
Do you think those grades are alright for application to Oxbridge?!

Nice! They should put you in a pretty good position. And remember, GCSEs are only a small part of an application to Cambridge - there are other aspects (that I know about), like entry test score, predicted grades, etc.
Yeah, we don't have predicted GCSE grades. Teachers just expect us to do our best. Hoping 4 A's at AS so should be a strong application... depending on the Cambridge entrance tests and interview, naturally.

I did a mixture of GCSEs and iGCSEs, so I'm still going to be graded A*-D for all my subjects. I would say 11 A*s but I almost certainly missed out on the A* in biology, so 10 A*s and 1 A it is, and I certainly wouldn't mind a few more As either. Cambridge doesn't actually care that much about GCSEs, though, so I'm not stressing too much. Your predictions look great

Exactly, there are many other factors - like entry test score(s), interview performance, PS, predicted grades, etc.
Sonechka. Those are pretty impressive grades. I'm guessing you're Asian too?!?!

Yeah, especially now that admissions assessments are being introduced for pretty much everything. It bugs me that there are only like 3 past papers for each admissions assessment, though. We're going to have to save them up.

Btw if anyone feels like procrastinating by reading sample interview questions, this website is really good (they're Oxford past questions but work equally well for Cambridge).

Ohh, I assumed you were at a private school and did all iGCSEs. The Intermediate Maths Challenge is the y9-11 version of the Senior Maths Challenge; the latter is the round which precedes and determines whether one can sit BMO1 or BMO2. I'm hoping to get through to BMO1 or at the very least get a gold, but I narrowly missed qualifying for the Intermediate Maths Olympiad this year so I don't know how well I'll do. It's unfortunate that you can't take the exams in y13, but I guess you'll have STEP to worry about then anyway so you might be able to focus more on that. Good luck with all your preparation! Hopefully I'll see you at Trinity :h:

I did the intermediate maths challenge last year, some how i got a gold and managed to qualify for the next round, which was some kangaroo thingy, which i then qualified in.

BTW I am also looking to apply for 2019 entry for engineering (maybe natsci) at Emmanuel college, but I'm undecided as I also really like the look of Pembroke and Queens too!!!

Target: 998A^A*A*A*A*A*A*A*A*A*
Probable reality: 987A^A*A*A*A*A*A*A*AA

Which course will you be applying for?

STEP (http://www.admissionstestingservice.org/for-test-takers/step/preparing-for-step/) has past papers since 1998. Does this count as an admission test?

Same! I guess we got similar marks then. I got 95, which was two marks off the qualifying mark for the Cayley Olympiad :frown: all because I got the last question (that nasty circle one) wrong. I should have left it blank; I'm still salty about that -.- do you think we have a chance at BMO1?

Good luck! ^_^ I prefer bigger colleges but Emma is a very nice college indeed. You have ages to decide, in any case!
Wow. People here are REALLY competitive. Just calm the ham, jeez ahah.

Ngl, I have no idea what BMO1 is, we just turned up to school and they told us we were doing the maths challenge that day.

Also why do you prefer bigger colleges (I'm assuming trinity?), Emma isn't that small, but each to their own I guess. Good luck to you too!

You lucky maths applicants :/ (although I suppose you need all the practice you can get given how hard STEP is!) I was thinking of the tests you sit on interview day, like the NSAA, MLAA etc., but STEP still counts I guess. Maybe I should have said "tests with 'admissions assessment' in the name." :P
