An Optimistic Blog to GCSE Victory (Part. 2 Year 10)

Hello Lovelies!

This is Ellie here, and as the summer comes to a much dreaded close, I will enter the deep dark realms of Year 10 (but hey, at least it's not the fiery pits of Hell - sorry Year 11's!) .

And I want to face my GCSE's with a sharp glare in my eye and my two middle fingers raised, so if I prepare enough in Year 10, I'm hoping that will happen! And you get to follow that journey with me! Lucky you! (haha kidding - you're done for)

Well back to the tremendous matter at hand - an introduction! Unless you know me from my previous blog of course.

Are you just starting year 10? Or did I read it incorrectly...

If so, man. People seem to be starting to 'revise' for GCSEs earlier and earlier these days... How can you revise when you haven't learnt any of the content yet? Just sayin'

Haha - yep, ah well, people do seem to 'revise' earlier an earlier but at least they're driven. And I'm possibly taking my science GCSE exams in Year 10 if we all do well on our mocks round January time I think? Anyway - we've learnt half the topics already? Thereabouts. This blog is for the whole year round so I'll share my learning and revision for class tests etc. via here.

I just write up notes from my cgp combined science books and go through the topics and do practise questions. Also i got the science gcse spec off my teacher in year 9. Xxx

Your school is pretty good if you've already done some topics. We did a bit at the end of year 9 on b1 but we didnt finish. The only gcse spec i did in year 9 was the maths one because im in top set (my intent is not to brag! 💗) You must go to some really good grammar school or something 😂😂💗💗💗💗

Hahaha :giggle::laugh: - nah my school ain't no grammar school (way too expensive ) - just an ordinary public school, although it is ofsted outstanding (they really won't drop this - it's on every wall inside and outside the school :colonhash:). They only made us begin it because apparently the entire year was doing well in science, moreso than any other year they've seen in a while, though now the majority of people just started lagging behind now. I think my school underestimated how much the majority of students just cba in year 9.

Our top set in maths also started GCSE content, accidentally, we did a week of year 9 content, got through a whole half term of work, did the test and the majority of us all got 100%, so our teacher (the head of maths) switched us to set 1 year 10 work and once again, we've accidentally got in front of them. Still doing the exam in YR 11 I believe, just a year ahead of everyone else in my year.

I've realised EVERYONE in my school does best at maths. Basically if your not sparkling at maths, you're a failure. If you get 0 marks in any other subject, people could care less cos you'll be getting the same as them .

What exam board are you doing for maths? Do you like the subject? 💗💗

Hahahaha 😂😂😂 our school is using edexcel for maths and top set had the same situation as you 😂😂😂 we just got given the same work as year 10 cos they were struggling!!!😂😂 I like maths....sometimes. I find the number side pretty easy and its probably my strongest, i also like formula work because you just apply the formula the only thing i dont like about maths is histograms its easy but i dont like it. Anything we have to draw in maths I dont like 😂😂😂. Also i go to a normal all girls state school 💛😂

YAAAAAAAS GIRL! I hate drawing ANYTHING at school - especially fiddling around with compasses - the last time I had a fight with one of those I broke a nail :frown::biggrin:. My exam board is OCR. Did you do a maths mock exam at the end, we did, it was so hard, I got a 7 in both calc and non-calc so I 'm hoping I'll leap up at least 1 grade before Y11 - possibly even 2!

Also, what's it like being in all girls school? Is it Heaven? Not a lot of couple snogging in front of you and boys are so rowdy and mirror obsessed - more-so than the girls. Or they're just plain disgusting - though that might just be the local boy population!

Was it a gcse mock paper?!? If it was oh lord! The only maths tests we did other than our end of year and end of topic tests where the year 9 sats which determined which set you'd be in for year 9. They made it really tense however because we did in the sports hall (where the gcse's take place) and they layered it out like a pooping gcse exam. Some people even started CRYING RIVERS before the exam!!!:biggrin::biggrin: I felt really sorry for them lol.:biggrin: Luckily i got a good enough percent to stay in top set for year 10!

HAHAHHAHA an all girls school is NOT heaven . As we both know girls can be really two faced and idiots sometimes!!! Around 90% of the girls in my school spend their lunch times in the toilets 'fixing their eyebrows' or 'taking that perfect insta pic' we're not allowed phones until 3:15 but the teachers never catch them! XD :biggrin::biggrin:. The girls in my school are split in two groups lol. There's nice people who actually care about their studies and dont have that many friends (aka me and my bestie nerds forever ), then theres the others who go arguing with the teachers and mess around in class who end up working in the local McDonalds or something (no offence to anyone who works there :biggrin:) then theres people in between. Its ok from time to time but i would rate my girls school a 6/10 on the girls in my school because :biggrin: (hope it gets better when I get back in 2 weeks)btw my school got a good from ofsted somehow :biggrin:

Let me give you an example of an all girls school:wink:
i just realised I haven't told you my name its Ama

Bestie and I sit down at a table to eat our lunch

Bestie: "what if they come?"
Me: " They can find somewhere els-"
Enter group of year 10 girls with heavy makeup
Year 10: "um excuse me this is where WE eat"
Bestie:" oh sorry" (gets up and leaves)
Me: (carries on eating nervously)
Year 10 squad sit down
Year 10 girl: "so basically he text me back and"
Other Year 10 girl: "OMG did your friend really leave you?!?!"
Me: "uhhh i dont know im going to go anway bye"
My bestie and I never sat on that table again :biggrin::biggrin:

Another example
In science class (one of my fav classes)
Teacher starts teaching

Girl in my class: "so basically I text her to stop spreading rumours about me "
Other girl: " OH MY DAYS THEN WHAT?!!??!"
Me: "Can you guys please lower it down im trying to listen"
Both Girls: NO!
Teacher: "Ama, can you please stop talking!"
Me: HGTRBV4RHUVRBVHRUVRNVRNVJRECJRBHTVNRJNJNG DGFNUGV *face palms table*

Hope you enjoyed it! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Hello Ama!

Seriously?! That reminds me of girls in my year - though tbf you don't really hear it that often 'cos the boys drown it out as they throw chairs/bins/books around unless your unlucky to sit next to one. I was sadly in Geography as we're not in Sets. I wanted to throw myself out of the window I sat next to . Though of course there's never any kind of telling off given only to me and my friends who try to help the people behind us who can't hear the lesson because of the screeching idiots beside us.

AND FLIPPING HECK IT WAS A GCSE MOCK PAPER AND I JUST DIED I was sat next to the kid who was 1 mark of an 8 and there was a teacher breathing down my neck and I JUST FELT SO UNCOMFORTABLE - the amount of dumb mistakes I made in the calc paper - seriously have to work on that.

When I walked out of the exam I had my hands over my ears for the rest of the day as everyone discussed answers - it's like nope not knowing all the things I got wrong whilst the wound is still fresh!

Those poor girls - well - I suppose it's practise for the real thing!

Hello Lovelies!

Today I finally remembered to check out GCSEPod - it's pretty damn cool! I've done 1 podcast for R.E (Christian Beliefs) and it delivers a lot of information (unlike my classes). However, I don't really think I'm that big of fan of trying to make notes whilst listening to it at the same time, I hope it's because I'm unfamiliar with the process and I will gradually become more comfortable with this seeming as this is a technique everyone will have to develop for, perhaps not now but at least further education.

Also, perhaps on Monday was it (?), I applied for work experience at Yorkshire Cat Rescue and have finally received a reply from them. I had to fill in an application about what sector I'd wish to gain experience in and I, obviously, chose the feeding sector (along with cleaning and socialising) as you may have to possibly give medicine and I want to study medicine. Hopefully I'll officially get a place, I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to pick the dates (I'd like to do it in October Holidays as school no longer offers a work experience week).

I'm also thinking about contacting my local GP and/or pharmacy for more work experience but I don't know how to go about this yet. If anyone reading this has any experience with this procedure I'd be delighted to receive tips/advice.

Thanks!

i'm definitely going to be watching this thread. I'm in year 9 too and i chose:
Triple science, computer science, r.e {which is mandatory at my school} and french.
Quick question; why doesn't your school do triple science?

Original post by randomstudent_
wow, i didn't know that some schools actually included year 10 syllabus into year 9 work. I'm in year 9 and i chose english language, english literature, mathematics, triple science, french, local language and history. Which exam board are you following? I'm an international student who's studying igcse's and if i'm not mistaken, i think my exam board is cie. Can't wait for more updates on blogging!

i'm in year 9 and i'm too lazy to do this. I honestly feel like i have 4 hours in my day there's not enough time

Original post by potatoqueen.
i'm in year 9 as well.this is really helpful.i picked the same thing as you apart from geography i'm doing bussiness studies.
Do you know what exam boards you are doing the majority of the gcses from?

hey guys! you guys were previous commentators on my year 9 blog, so sorry for disturbing you if you stopped following my blog, but in case u were i thought i'd forward you to and updated year 10 version!
Tomorrow's To Do's:

3 Physics Notes

Finish B7 Checklist

Carbon Cycle Diagram

R.E GCSEPod

Go through French Flashcards

Carry on B7 Mindmap

Attempt to finish Cover of Romeo and Juliet Booklet Resource.

I will need to also find time to write a list of items I need to buy for when I go up Town on Sunday - this includes a refill pad (any suggestions would be nice - I want a cheap one but with nice paper that doesn't let much ink bleed through) and flashcards. I want to try and do 'decorative' flashcards for learning vocabulary (science) and diagrams quickly. Nothing too fancy just a quick splash of colour when I have time. I've also decided that I will buy the textbooks, highlight the information and do flashcards directly from the books as making pretty notes like my science notes takes way too long - I've only done so with science because I wasn't juggling many subjects. This means i will take notes directly from class, pull them out the refill pad and slot them into a folder. Though they will be kinda colourful with Papermate Inkjoy pens!

HAHAHA the boys in your year sound crazzzyyyy:lol::lol::lol: The teachers dont really mind me helping people too!

Awwwwwww well done for getting a 7 though:smile:! Thats amazing for a Gcse mock paper. and its maths. I can just imagine my set, we would have dieddd despite being top set! Omg the answers things always happens after a test!!! People just come up to me and ask what i got in a particular question and once the answer they got isnt what i got im dead! i start having a mental breakdown as i dont know if i've failed the paper or not! the silly mistakes i make in maths though im not even going to go there! If we just practise we'll get used to not making silly mistakes! xxx

Just see how you feel when the time comes Ama xxx either way doing ncs would be an AMAZING experience, and something to do! I hope you do find some work experience for the October holiday! What area of work experience were you hoping to do?

And yes - it is a cat haha! I finally managed to snag a seat when he finally moved over - do you have any pets?

Btw - don't we all just get carried away with science?
