Cool! I'm also starting year 10 but I don't know how you can stand doing languages! (sorry @IKEAPanda37 :colondollar:) I was getting 8s in French but it's so dull so I was glad when I dropped it. Apart from compulsory subjects and triple science I am not doing any of your subjects, I'm also doing RE-> (also compulsory) geography and music )
I look forward to your updates!

Hi! I guess i like languages because it's cool seeing how they compare to English, and it's really satisfying when you learn how to say new things. But I'm also weird because I like learning the grammar and conjugations.

It could be the teacher as well. I hated French up to year 8 but I prefer the teacher I had last year (who I'm also having for GCSE--it was a big relief to find that out). I was also doing Spanish this year but I quit because I didn't like the teacher. I do like the language and may pick it up again but I just couldn't deal with the lessons. Music was one of my backup options and I'm sure it'll be super fun. I like geography and RE as long as the teacher is good. Unfortunately we had a really bad geography teacher this year so I've lost most of my passion for it. Nethertheless have fun with your subjects and good luck!

I had a really funny French teacher this year, we had loads of class jokes and we learnt loads of weird words and verbs and put them into sentences (using a verb like voler (to fly/to steal) and making a sentence that would fit both meanings.)
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to music as it is a very small class of 12 - and we are all quite good musicians
We also had a great geography and RE teacher last year - I have my form tutor for geography this coming year - she's just one of those people you don't know if you like or not, but I have a great class of about 20 so that's okay.

Take up Spanish again! Do you use Duolingo or anything to help? I found this helped with the simple vocab

Duolingo's a pretty good idea, I use it for French sometimes and it does help so thanks for the suggestion! I'll probably wait until school starts again to do it because I struggle to concentrate during holidays. Less than a week to go though!

Also, yay for small classes, they're always fun! I'm pretty sure my Latin class will be small but lots of people are doing triple science, history and French so those will probably be bigger despite all of them being split into two groups due to the sheer number of people doing them. I'm pretty sure the music, geography and RE classes in my year are going to be tiny because most people hated the geography and music teachers and RE just wasn't a very popuar choice. Although I could be wrong about RE :/ the thing is they couldn't fit it onto our schedule last year so if you wanted to do RE you had to take lessons out of school and I think that put lots of people off. But I'm not hugely sure about what most people are doing except knowing some friends who I'm definitely having classes with.

Oh right, ours is a Christian school so we have to do RE up until we've done GCSEs.
I agree smaller classes are better

I was wondering if that was the case, because I have a couple of friends going to a Christian school who have to take RE. Just be glad you're not at my school because languages are compulsory  I'd have taken French anyway but clearly you wouldn't enjoy it

That sounds awesome  have a great time at uni and I'll keep you in mind if I need help
I'll definitely be watching this thread.
I'm going into year 10 as well and loooove languages like you do, (if only my school offered Latin at GCSE and an Ancient Greek after school club...*sigh*).
I'm also planning on doing the exact same A-levels as you as well, however if you do choose IB, I wish you the best of luck:thumbsup:.
For french, I'd recommend using Memrise, because when learning vocab they include french people saying it so it helps your pronunciation and for all your subjects generally (although with those year 9 results, it should probably be you offering me advice :colondollar:) I'd recommend the app Temple and Gojimo, they're pretty good for revision.

I haven't used Temple or Memrise but I'll make sure to check them out! I do love Gojimo  it's a lifesaver for revising when I don't have my books.

If you do need advice with studying you can always ask, I'm just not sure how great I'll be at explaining. Mostly it's just flashcards and lots of practice papers (although, saying that, all the practice papers I did were in school or for homework, but I will use a lot more come exam period in Y11)

And it's cool to see someone planning on doing the same A-levels! Have you thought about uni options as well, or is that too far into the future? :P

Cool! I'll be sure to ask you for advice when I need to.

I plan on studying medicine at either UCL or Imperial and then doing ophthalmology residency(specialising) at the University of Calgary in Canada.

Hey! I'm starting this with the hope of smashing my GCSEs  (and afterward, my A-levels/IB and university!)

These are the subjects I'm doing:

Spoiler

And these are my current grades in them (as of the end of year 9 exams):

Spoiler

I'm hoping for all 9s (maybe a couple of 8s but preferably not) which I think I can achieve if I work hard! The subjects I need to work hardest on are English lit (although I feel that's because of the teacher. I really didn't like my English teacher this year.), Physics and French. Specifically French listening but I need to improve confidence with spoken French as well.

After GCSE I'll probably do Maths, Chemistry, Biology and French at A-levels, but I might do the IB instead so I have more variety  If I do the IB I'm going to do those subjects as well as English literature and either History or Psychology, with HL subjects being Maths, Chemistry, and French.

I'm thinking of MIT, Harvard or another top US university because university courses in the US seem to fit me more. But there are some brilliant universities in the UK as well and I've still got several years to make up my mind so things may change. I'll probably study something related to science but I'm not 100% sure. A language might be cool too since I love doing French at school and being able to speak other languages is super useful  Most likely is doing a science related major and a language related minor

My main interests outside of school:

Spoiler

I'll start updating regularly about my studies when I start school on the sixth! I'll try to update a couple of times a week at least. Maybe more often if anyone wants to talk about non-study related stuff as well, can't be all work no play, can we?

See you all soon!

I play the ukulele too! And im goin into year 10 but im taking:

English lang and lit
Maths
Triple Science
Drama( i love musical theatre too! My current fav is billy elliot)
History
Rs(compulsory)
French (i love french)

Also aiming for grade 9's and 8's but preferably 9's and with the hard work and mentality, I believe i can do it.

Just wanted to ask when your school started teaching you the gcse content since you mentioned doing an english lit test at the end of year 9. Do you go to a normal state school if you dont mind me asking. I do xxxx

Medicine sounds cool! I've considered it but honestly there are so many things that interest me that I haven't decided yet. I do have a friend that really wants to do medicine though!

Seems we have a lot in common  I haven't listened to Billy Elliot but I'll add it to my list of musicals to listen to.

We've started GCSE content for Science, Maths, French, Latin and a bit of History, but the year 9 tests were just regular tests we do every year that don't count as much except an indicator of how you're doing. I go to a private school but it's relatively cheap compared to most private schools and all things considered it's similar to most state schools in the area, except it's a lot smaller (there are only about 60 people per year and even less in sixth form!)

Its interesting one of your favourite musicals is heathers. I kinda like the musical but it was really confusing for me so i had to read the plot on wikipedia!!!:laugh::laugh: Whats your favourite musical!?!? There's too many fab ones for me to choose from!

Wow!!! I must ask, how does it feel going to a really small school? I go to an all girls state school and we have 8 forms for each year!!!!! Also yes some private schools are suprisingly lower in price than other private schools which are more posh and are very similar to state schools lol.

I agree that there are too many great musucals to choose from! Heathers has a special place in my heart because it was the first I listened to and therefore the one that got me into musicals, so it's definitely up there. A new favourite is Groundhog Day, I was listening to it today and I loved it!! Really makes you think about how you should enjoy life and take all the opportunities you can.

Small schools are pretty cool, you know basically everyone (I have friends going into year 8 and friends in sixth form) and teachers can help you more because there are fewer people. I've never been in a big school before so I can't really compare, but I do know that I like it

Thank you!
As a fellow lover of musicals (although I'd usually go for the better known ones such as Les miserables or Wicked) I wish you good luck in your studies this year!
Not quite sure how you do languages though... I struggled through the old spec French in year 9 and now 2 years later can't speak more than a few sentences (though I could congregate all the common verb for you!)
If you ever need any help on the maths side of things and to some extent the sciences tag me in and I'll take a look
