Why don't you stop bragging about your useless art grades and tell us something useful? Perhaps your Maths grades or tips for getting an A* in Physics or Chemistry? Even History? English Language? Economics? Business studies? How about Geography? Art and Drama are the most useless, irationaly oversubscribed courses in the world. Its useless, is it nice for a STEM student to have a peice of art on his wall by some broke artist? Yes, absolutely. Is it nice to have an art student who can get a heart transplant and quick emergency service response because of a doctors expertise on the surgery, a mechanical engineers work on an ambulance, and a software engineers time put into the GPS functions? No, its mandatory. The world can survive without 90% of the current people we have in the Art and Drama industries. The world wouldn't even exist if it werent for more important subjects, STEM or even other "humanities" subjects.

What about Computer Science? It's a **** subject as well

If you want help with those subjects, I also got full UMS in all three sciences and A*s in History, Maths, FM (A^), English Language (8), French and Ancient Greek (only A/7 was in English Lit). The A levels I'm studying this year are actually Maths, FM, Physics and Chemistry. I can help with those if you'd like, but my advice would be fairly standard and you've probably heard it multiple times before, as I didn't do anything particularly usually for revision.

However many people on TSR specialise in the STEM area and so there are multiple threads to help with this. I decided to make this thread because so many people struggle with art as a GCSE and there are less people on TSR who take it.

Plus, art is my passion and my hobby, although it's not the only subject I love. I'm sorry you feel that way about art and I agree a painting is not as much use as a heart transplant, but that doesn't mean people can't take art as a GCSE in my opinion–GCSEs are still early on in your education and most people have no idea what they want to do 5 years down the line. There's nothing wrong with doing a "fun subject" at GCSE or even A level, and I don't see fault if people want to go do Fine Art at university

Ha ha I was only being sarcastic, of course Computer Science is important especially in the 21 century where technology is at its finest.
There is this guy in my school who took subjects like Art and Photography at A level and guess what he wants to become? A game developer, he spends so much time drawing League of Legends(**** game in my opinion) for his art projects.

It's nice to find someone else who did really well at art gcse but didn't take it to A level :smile:

I'm also doing maths, further maths, physics and chemistry. I got full marks in my art coursework (I never found out how many marks I got on my exam work though) and my teacher and all my classmates were horrified about the fact that I didn't want to do art at A level (insert laughing emoji that I can't seem to find). GCSE art took up so much of my time I definitely wasn't going to subject myself to the a level!

What are you planning to do after a levels?

Aww congrats with your Art coursework! Haha I know what you mean with A Level Art–my reached is still trying to persuade me to change! I actually really enjoyed Art GCSE, despite it taking sooooo long (as I said, it's my passion) so I was upset to drop it; alas, you have to be a bit tactical with A levels!

I'm planning to do Maths, Physics or Natural Sciences at uni, although I haven't decided which, hence why I couldn't take Art as my forth A level (need FM for the former two and Chemistry for the latter). What about you? Lovely to see someone doing the same subjects and who has been an ex art pupil!

Not everyone takes a level art with the intention of getting a job within that field or an art degree - for many people it's an extra subject they do because they enjoy it and it can contrast with the other subjects they're doing - some people do take an a level because it's enjoyable? Not because they want to pursue a career in that area. Also, I don't understand your assumption that taking a level art means you're going to do an art degree.

I personally chose not to do art because of those reasons but every person is different - for you and me it might not be a 'relaxing' subject but then again, what we find relaxing isn't what the rest of the world finds relaxing.

I agree Art is very time consuming, in fact one of the first pieces of advice I give to people considering GCSE art is "don't do it unless you have a passion for art and already do it in your free time" because there is so much to do, but if you enjoy it, then why not? It's a different type of work to learning subjects like history or practising subjects like maths, and although it's a lot of work, that doesn't make it a bad A level. I did all my art GCSE homework while watching TV or YouTube because then I'm multitasking. It's hard in a different way to other subjects, but it's different in a good way in my opinion

Oo haha that's great! I was original set on engineering until I went to an open day and realised I really would rather do theory over anything practical! What universities are you considering?

I'd like to aim for Oxford (I like cambridge but I actually already live there so it's way to close to home!), Imperial, Bath and UCL (just any top uni really) but I guess it kinda depends how my a levels go - but those are my dream universities, especially oxford and imperial. What about you?
