Why should it be naikee? I thought it came from victory in Ancient Greek, which is νίκη and isn't pronounced nyk nor naiikee (unless it's from a different dialect or late period, which would be rather tasteless).


As a bilingual, I got them all right. English phonetics are absurd.

I don't know phonetic alphabet but in Ancient Greek the "i" should sound like "i" in "niche" or in "Nintendo" and the final "e" should sound like the "e" in "net". It makes to name a sports company after victory, considering that with a capital N it means the deification of the concept. Athena, for example, can be Parthenos (virgin) as in the Parthenon or Nike as in another smaller temple nearby. Nike is also used to describe an ancient statue in praise of victory.
