I'm thinking of applying to Newcastle for medicine (2018 entry) so I would like to know what the UKCAT cutoff in previous years have been.
Don't forget to put the scores you have been given in context. For 2014 entry the cut off was unusually high because of an anomaly where one sub test was unusually easy resulting in high ukcat scores. The following year the cut off was unusually low because less people with high ukcat applied to Newcastle, put off by the high threshold in the previous year. The 2100 score last year is based on only 3 sub test components rather than 4, so was 700 average.
Hey does anyone know the cut offs for grad entry med at Newcastle?? Currently achieved 705 but been told that’s way too low to apply with
Well the grad cut off has always been higher than the undergrad cut off, by differing amounts each year (minimum difference 10). You can see in a recent post that the Uni have advised that the undergrad cut off last cycle was 2100 (700 based on 3 subtests last year)
You will also see in my last post on here that I have asked why their website has recently changed from 2100 to 2000? Be cautious about the response when it arrives, whether it is based on a standard applicant or somebody applying under "Wider Access" arrangements.
I don't know much about grad entry. but for undergrad your ukcat would be very competitive at Sheffield, Southampton, Manchester, Plymouth - probably others.

I have read on another thread that at one of the open days it was said that this year Newcastle was interested in interviewing further down the decile range than previous years for A100. Did anyone else hear that? In previous years the cutoff seems to have been about the top 20%. This year the interim was something like 2800 at 20%. So if you actually have 2800 it’s a bit frustrating and risky seeming. Especially if you are only intending to apply to northern universities and live in the Newcastle practice area. If Newcastle is sticking to what it used in previous years then thats it probably. There seems little point if you are GCSE heavy to take the risk.
The Med School publishes on their website "Application and UKCAT data 2017".
Until recently it contained the figure 2100 you quoted above. It has been changed to 2000 !
Which is correct?
Hi,
This is the latest response from the Medical School:
In relation to the standard 5-year programme (A100) and the 4 year programme (A101), applicants fulfilling the academic threshold will then be assessed on their UKCAT scores. The UKCAT threshold may vary depending upon the competition to each programme or the route of entry. This threshold may differ in each admission cycle as it is depended on the scores achieved by those applicants to apply to our Medical School in the current cycle. If the UKCAT Administrator awards you a UKCAT Exemption it is important that you read section 11 of the current Admissions Policy) for information on the process we use to deal with these applications and the evidence you need to provide.
Currently we do not take into consideration the SJT part of the test.
Please see below for the previous UKCAT cut off score used for A100 and A101 entry.

With respect, that doesn't answer my question. I asked why for several months the cut off for A100 for 2017 was published on your website as 2100, and has only recently been changed to 2000. Which is correct?

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It's a very busy time in the Medical School right now, as I'm sure you'll understand!
The UKCAT threshold was originally set at 2100 however a small number of places remained available after confirmation and the decision was taken to offer interviews to applicants who had score slightly less in the UKCAT. The cut-off score was therefore lowered to 2000.
Hi, around how many interviews are you looking to give out this year, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. The Medical School are very busy at the moment!
They aim to interview around 900 candidates, and the interviews will be held in December, January and February. Last year 342 students were offered a place on A100.
Hello again, are graduates applying to a100 required to meet the standard a level requirement of AAA, or are these lowered/not considered?
Hi,
Graduates can apply to A100 but the entry requirements will remain the same. However, A Levels and GCSEs aren't taken into account for the accelerated A101 course.
