New a level calculator
I haven't got mine yet but what's so special about it compared to the old one? Also, what makes it a necessity?

The main thing that differentiates the Classwiz calculator for example from an older calculator is that it has
"The ability to compute summary statistics and access probabilities from standard statistical distributions".
Certain exam questions in statistics will require this.
