New foreign languages to be taught in UK state schools?

When schools stop teaching French, German and Spanish after Brexit what modern languages should take their place?

I think: Japanese Russian and Arabic could be taught in our state schools. What languages do you think should be taught?

Why on earth would we stop learning French, German and Spanish because of Brexit? Silly reason not to learn those languages.

Also those languages are unnecessarily hard to learn since they have different letters.

But Japanese is taught in Australian schools as their main foreign language. After Brexit Britain will probably have closer ties, trade, employment with countries like Japan etc than it will with EU countries meaning French, Spanish etc will more or less be pointless languages to learn.

If Austrialian and New Zealand school pupils can cope with Japanese then I'm sure British pupils can.

And where is Australia? On the other side of the ****ing world. In terms of geographical proxmity, France, Germany and Spain are much closer as well as their respective speaking countries.

Nah, most of our year are already **** at the three staple languages , we probably couldn't bear learning really difficult ones like Russian or Japanese

I can think of many reasons why it could:

Japan has Powerful growing economy.

Japanese culture is popular in Great Britain. Karate, Judo and Kickboxing originated from Japan and MMA a popular sport originated from Karate, Judo and KB. Anime art is very popular too. Pupils will enjoy learning Japanese for those reasons. What popular cultures do we share with EU countries? Very few.

Wagamama is cool.

Most car imports will be from Japan post Brexit.

Getting into Japan for holiday, work or study will be no harder than getting into any EU country after Brexit.

Taking French or Spanish etc to A level might not look so good on a CV from the eyes of a pro- Brexit employer.

Ok yes you might have a valid argument over distance. A 10 hour flight to Tokyo is far more expensive and time consuming than a 2 hour flight to Europe.

The foreign language in state schools IS English.

How can English be a foreign language in English schools? English has been taught for hundreds of years as our native language.
