There’s a lot of *******s on this thread, you should look at environmental factors for depression to see why this is happening. It is due to the lifestyle changes we have in 2017 vs the generations before but there are far too many to list on my phone on a student forum.

What do you mean by "(excessive) liberalism"?

kids being told to choose their gender/sexuality etc, at a ridiculously early age. why can't extreme liberalists just leave kids alone!?

Liberalism is another thing but I got the idea. I don't think it's a problem, it's only about letting people do what they want, people who tell children to choose their gender are mad.

Any normal person would would take that as proof that capitalism is superior. Not you though, those edgy tumblr pages know better.

well I mean multiple socialist states have been intentionally dismantled by coups so?

also I personally find a system which doesn't actually benefit everyone to be garbage.

Many also didn't and they're still unsuccessful.

Why should everyone be benefited by the state? If you don't study, don't work as hard in life you have no right to earn as much as someone who did.
100% social media
It's noteworthy that home educated children are rarely depressed although many were depressed whilst at school. Far too many secondary school students (and often their parents) take school far too seriously nowadays. If you didn't already know school is not compulsory. If school is making you depressed then just walk out and leave. It's possible to take GCSEs outside of school as an external candidate. There are also alternatives to GCSEs like BTECs, City & Guilds, Open University courses etc.

Another problems is that very few teenagers have any adult friends or contacts in careers that they are interested in. School / college / university really is a parallel society and young people who have more interests in the real world rather than passing exams often tend to be happier people.

Social media, society, poor health (rise in obesity, fall in fitness/activity levels), the internet, technology, lack of hope due to politics (growing up in the 00’s we were given huge hope with New Labour, something this country has been lacking since 2008), poor background, high competitiveness/expectations at school…

There’s a whole number of possible reasons but those, I think, are just some of main reasons why today’s young people are more likely to be depressed
I have been diagnosed with depression and have had to deal with suicidal thoughts.
I have only recently seen my GP about it, but it took me a while to realise that suicidal thoughts and being seriously down for days wasn't normal. I have had a horrendous experience in years 7-9 at school, really really struggling. I also put an immense amount of pressure on myself and am very hard on myself when something goes wrong or if I don't meet my standards
I cannot speak for others, however this is just my experience.

First of all: the fact that such states (which btw way successful for the brief period they existed before they were destroyed) is kinda proof that capitalism isn't the inherently superior model.

Second: many people work, and often they are unable to progress. I noted how you used "study", although education isn't available to many people. It shouldn't be debatable whether or not everyone has the basic human right to have education, safety, shelter and provisions, but guess what! That doesn't happen, sometimes not even in highly developed countries (e.g. the excessive amounts of homeless people). Some people can't actually work due to mental and physical disabilities, and the idea that socialism just gives money to undeserving people is wrong - it merely funds public welfare services that give people the ability to progress. Parasites that prey on this system do exist and are all trash, but they make up a tiny % of the people who rely on such services.

You can't just assume that people who don't study are all parasites: sometimes they can't go to higher education because of issues at home, or financial issues, or disability.

Anyway, did you know that the global food production is enough to give everyone in excess of 2500 calories? But guess what! Capitalism dictates that supply = demand, so companies sometimes destroy their product to create an artificial demand, thus maximising profits (yeah i know that supply = demand anyway but capitalism lets companies maximise their profits at the deficit of others).

Honestly, I personally understand that nationalising everything is bad due to inefficiency and my beef is mainly with hyper capitalism/pure capitalism (which is what most companies follow).
