What do you think of Jacob Rees-Mogg?

He's got maybe a few interesting ideas that should be in the debate however he's really a bit of a tool who's unwilling to adapt or change and that'll ultimately be the reason why he'll never become anymore than a bit of a social media craze.

It's a bit of a shame and a relief at the same time.

Hi there!

What I would like to know is the student youth's opinion about JRM, and if you think he would be suitable for the top spot in parliament as PM. Feel free to discuss policies, his own views etc. Thanks!

His surname is funny
JRM is a stupid person's idea of what intelligence is. Just like Stephen Fry etc. I recently watched JRM and Rory Stewart MP debate morality for two hours in the commons, Stewart was incredibly intellectual working metaphysical ideas into practice. While JRM sporadically chimed in with half-baked points as if all his wisdom and authority is supposed to derive from his received pronunciation and the odd piece of Tudor history.

And she has every right to her opinion, that he is a piece of sh*t lol. That's not a crime is it??

It is not a crime, but it is narrow minded and intolerant, bigoted even.

I believe in same sex marriage and abortion myself, but respect the right of Catholics to disagree with me on religious grounds. That makes them profoundly wrong in my eyes but not pieces of ****.

She conflates holding a view she doesn't share with a character flaw. She isn't alone in that, but it is very depressing.

It's people like you who make TSR such a pleasant place.

You clearly are an avid reader of Dale Carnegie.:aetsch:

My point still stands. You said before it's his views because he is a Catholic, but there are many Catholics who accept same sex marriage and abortion because there is nothing wrong with it. Just because he is a Catholic shouldn't make his beliefs a bit backwards.

My psychiatrist told me to stop thinking about A**holes, so i try not to think about JRM

I remember watching a repeat of Ali G on channel 4 more than a decade ago before he became an MP and being famous. I thought he was some sort of piss-taking Historian or something because he didn't he realise he was pranked by Ali G. He Should be prime Minister right now.... by launching a coup on Theresa May.

Then when a general election comes, he will lose badly, and Jeremy Corbyn finally becomes prime minister with a strong majority and make this country a Socialist Country. Can't see the electorate voting for a pile of **** homophobic idiot who is so out of touch in the world.

I find him extremely overrated, his voting record is atrocious!

Many could not see the electorate voting for somebody who does not support the union, does not support NATO and does not support the monarchy.

Don't be too complacent.

I am not "youth" but Rees-Mogg has not been tested by any of the difficult decisions that politicians in office have to make.

Even his views on abortion have not really been tested. He might say that as a Catholic he opposes abortion in all circumstances but what happens when it is the stroke of his pen that decides whether money is spent on abortion clinics or not? IDS, as a devout Catholic Welfare Secretary, signed off on restricting Child Benefit for multiple children and payments to single mothers knowing that his actions would increase abortion. That isn't hypocrisy. That is a hard choice.

Bloke is against same-sex marriage and abortion, even in cases of rape. Piece of ****.

This.
He's great! He'd have my unhesitating vote for the Tory leadership if he ran for it.

Yes, you were one of those people!

The reason people vote for Corbyn is because he talks about issues that are actually important to them like health, housing, job security, public services etc. While you were obsessed with non-issues, such as making out he would leave NATO, others were looking at a failed housing market. While Tories were going on and on about the IRA, young graduates and even middle class professionals were seeing their costs of living rise while their wages were stagnating. The Tories and the media just don't get Corbyn or his appeal, and they still think they can counter it by going on about the IRA.

Quite how you think Mogg will sweep up those votes by talking about same sex marriage and abortion, I'm really not sure. Why on earth would anyone under 40 who voted Corbyn, change to Rees Mogg?

Just as you've done consistently over the last couple of years, you underestimate Corbyn and simply don't understand why people vote for him. When Tories support Rees Moog, it shows more than anything that they have totally run out of ideas.

But the reality is that for the most part, one party's possibles and another party's possibles are not the same people. Cobyn's vote at the general election didn't come at the expense of May who also increased her vote.

Absolute tw*t who could not possibly be any less aware of the struggles of the average person and espouses views I find utterly disgusting. But hey, he's not afraid to voice unpopular opinions and generally explains himself well, which is fairly rare for a politician.

I find it difficult to comprehend how someone so completely out of touch with the lives of the average person could ever be elected to represent them. But then, given the state of British politics at the moment, it's hardly surprising.

The problem for the Tories now is that there is hardly any UKIP vote to eat into at the next election. After the 2015 election there were tens of Labour held seats in which the combined Tory and UKIP vote was higher than the Labour vote. Now there are hardly any.

Corbyn isn't popular because he's 'authentic'. The Greens and UKIP are authentic but neither got very many votes. Corbyn is popular because he speaks about issues that people care about, that actually affect them.

You appear to take the view that others can hold any view you like on same-sex marriage and the same with abortion. How very reasonable of you

but now you seem to be denouncing someone else's opinion as well... how paradoxical

Eh? Sorry, you lost me there - who have I 'denounced'?
Rees-Mogg's views are utterly despicable and out of touch with modern Britain. This is why, as a Labour supporter, I will be encouraging all my Tory friends to sign up and vote for him whenever strong and stable crashes out of No 10. He's the best way of getting a Labour government apart from Theresa May herself.
