Probability help needed

Hey,

1. (5 marks) A box of chocolates contains 15 milk chocolates and 12 white chocolates.

1.

(a) Define a sample space for the experiment of recording the types of three chocolates chosen

at random from the box, one by one

(i) with replacement, that is, after you draw the first chocolate, you record its type, replace it in the box and draw the second chocolate;

(ii) without replacement.

2.

(b) Write down the cardinality of the two sample spaces. (Recall that the cardinality of a set is the number of elements contained in the set).

3.

(c) Repeat the above when there are M milk chocolates and W white chocolates.

Hint: Start by thinking of a good notation for the elementary events.

Which parts have you done? Which parts have you attempted and failed to complete?

If you haven't done any of it, then a good starting place is your lecture notes on this.

I have done all the questions but I think they are wrong

1a i) A= {MMM,WMM,MWM, MMW, WWM, WMW, MWW, WWW}

ii) B= {MMM, WMM,MWM, MMW, WWM, WMW, MWW, WWW, MMM}

1b) Cardinality for part (i) and (ii)= 8

1c) C= {w:w=(a1,a2,a3), ai=W or M}

Can't see anything wrong. Sample space is just the set of possible outcomes.
I presume the extra MMM at the end of ii) is just a typo.

You could, of course, have used the same answer for the final part.

We're assuming M,W >2
