Hi! I am also doing my GCSE'S in 2018 and also aiming high. Fun Fact: I also want to do medicine (Hopefully). I already did my CRS GCSE and got an A* but how are y'all revising???? I always revise in the last minute but hey ho it helps me feel the pressure to do well :smile:

My tip for procrastinating is try to procrastinate efficiently, so rather than trying not the procrastinate, you should procrastinate by doing work in another subject e.g. one that you feel like working on and then just come back to what you were working on originally later on

I'm also in year 11 and aiming for 8 grade 8's (English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, French and Religious Studies) and 1 9 (Maths :biggrin:

Just had my mocks and got 4 9's, 2 8's, 1 7 and 2 6's so I guess I'm doing okay. I also have a GYG thread if you want to check it out. Gonna watch this thread from now.

Hahaha! Good luck to you aswell! Have you started revising yet? And how long do you revise for? I am LAZY but I try and do atleast 2 everyday :smile:

Your point has no support behind it. "Anyone can get 20 A*s given enough time and effort". Time and effort can also get you 6 A*s at A Levels but that doesn't mean it's easy. Give me proof of this achievable 20 A*s you claim (which you haven't photoshopped) and I'll agree with you.

The bitterness you see here ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you underperform at GCSEs and try putting down others to make you feel better.

There are 2 people on TSR who know my actual GCSE results, mainly because they helped me choose which med schools to apply to based on my strengths. I got 4 A* predictions at A-Level and 8 A*s at GCSE (don't really care if you believe me), and my friends and I were discussing the other day how we found GCSEs harder than A level exams. This is obviously not the case for a lot of people, but I found it harder to revise for a stream of 3 GCSE subjects in one day as opposed to possibly 2 A-level exams in a week. Don't get me wrong, the content was not hard at all, but neither was A-levels really if you understand it. Therefore the only difference I found was the vast number of exams and subjects for GCSEs (some of which I hated and ended up not working hard in) compared to A-levels over a short period of time.

I hope that you can see my point before jumping to insults. Also, the OP was asking for tips if I recall, so if you being helpful and "positive" is posting it's easy to get 20 A*s, thank you for your contribution.

Good luck! I got two 9's in Lang & Lit and am always here if you want any advice or have any questions!

My main advice is read outside of class and outside of what your teachers tell you! I included aspects of religion, marxism, socialism, psychology & philosophy in my Lit answers (where applicable) and I think that really helped me "stand out" :smile:

One thing you'l learn over the next 1/2 yrs, if you're still going to apply for medicine, is that there are no "better" med schools. This sort of thing is applicable to any other degree apart from medicine. At the end of it you'll get a medical degree and a guranteed job. All med schools are equally good and only differ in their course structure and training. So when you come to apply, you should be applying to places where you like the look of and how they use your strengths as part of your selection process (to increase your chances as different med schools will prioritise differently). I guess at the moment, since you haven't sat your GCSEs, UKCAT/BMAT, or AS exams you won't know which ones these are.

Also you have mentioned 3 BMAT unis. I DO NOT recommend applying to all 3. When you come to apply, you'll only have UKCAT results in hand as the BMAT is in November (should be revising for it as it's next week!). So it's really risky to apply to 3 BMAT out of your 4 choices since you can't change your options if you under perform in the BMAT. Even if your UKCAT score isn't great I wouldn't recommend applying to more than 2 BMAT unis.

I have applied to Cambridge for medicine but not because of the typical reasons people apply there. I wanted to have one BMAT uni amongst my choices and I wasn't applying to London (the expense!) and didn't like BSMS, Leeds or Lancaster. That left me with one of the Oxbridge choices. Oxford look at BMAT and GCSEs more heavily (they prefer double digit A*s whereas I got 8 A*s) so I went for Cambridge since they look for above 90 AS UMS marks and review each application holistically. It also has a traditional course structure which to be honest I would prefer (but it's not everyone's cup of tea).
