On campus accommodation (StudentCom) was rubbish (was ethernet and not wifi) (this was like 5 years ago though)

On campus non accommodation (Eduroam) is fine as its what Im currently using right now at hospital!
Birmingham City University
Eduroam
4.5
It has a few weak areas in tucked away seminar rooms and a few people find their laptop connects in some areas and doesn't in others (however I think that's down to the laptop as my laptop and phone are always connected).

I think we can universally agree that Eduroam sucks.

Was enough to do my work on when I brought my laptop in but very unstable.
Interestingly, while we've been having this conversation, my WiFi went off.

🙄 My experiences of Eduroam (as of this September) lead me to believe it's quite good (on my uni campus anyway).

I have been summoned! :hat2:

University
The University of Essex.

Wifi system used (e.g. eduroam)
We use Studentcom for the accommodation Wi-Fi and Eduroam in the library.

Rating
3/5. Not that bad, but it is not great either. I am overall satisfied, given that I do not pay for it. :h:

Why?
Studentcom can be so slow at times that I have to close all my tabs or at least some of them. It makes receiving messages on Facebook and watching Youtube videos a bit difficult sometimes. Eduroam works better, but I have yet to use it for anything but Moodle and reading.
I suppose I'd better do one:innocent:

University: Keele
Wifi system used: eduroam
Rating: 4
Why?
It works. But stutters every now and then, which is annoying.
Hertfordshire
Eduroam, own system, the cloud
3/5
When it works, it works but it goes of at really dumb times and some places in the Uni has really spotty connection. I use Eduroam at home and either that or the cloud for in class (like now).

University: De Montfort University, Leicester
Wi-Fi Provider: Eduroam
Rating 4/5
Comments: Easy to log in to (just set up your login details and it automatically connects all the time). Coverage across the campus is generally good and the speeds are fast enough for the vast majority of things. The uplink speeds are very fast, often faster than the download (as most people download more than they upload).
Sometimes the wifi can drop out in some areas, but this is quite a rare occurrence - most of the time it's fine. Sharing media via WhatsApp over the wi-fi can sometimes be a bit iffy - don't know why, but 90% of the time, it works well for everything. Hence the 4/5 instead of the 5/5.

If you wanted me to rate their wired ethernet connections, they would be a 5/5 all day long, due to the gigabit ethernet system used, giving very impressive performance.
Uni of Glasgow campus uses eduroam, which I've never needed as yet. Accommodation uses keysurf who are actually quite good at providing things that work.
Results so far are generally positive, interesting.:beard:
