Should people be able to get pads and tampons for free?

At Sixth form we get people coming in once every two weeks, giving out free condoms. This got me thinking about how, although sex is a choice colleges (and the government) are willing to aid it, but periods aren't a choice and it costs 50p to buy a pad or tampon in the toilets at college.
Do you agree? Am I overreacting?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Yes, it should be free. We didn't choose this, it chose us. I never signed up to be in extreme pain for 3 days.

O, if you need a tampon you should pay for it. Either way someone's got to pay for it

3 days? My period is 7 days
If guys can wrap their willies for free we should be able to get free tampons/pads. Or at the very least, tax free - they're an essential.

The problem is, you're opening floodgates if you do (no pun intended).

I need to get the bus to work.

I also need to have water in my house.

I need to use toilet paper.

You get the drift.

I should have added, hopefully before anyone quotes me (not meaning to sound needy), that they should be as cheap as possible, i.e. not VAT rated. I get how they were classed as luxuries as there are less luxurious alternatives, but we live in the 20th century (I'm a northerner) and some of us live in the next century (I can't wait).

The feminine products available today have only been around since about WWI, women have done without them for thousands of years. Wouldn't say the're essential whatsoever.

I didn't ask to excrete waste, but I do. I don't NEED toilet paper, it just makes things hygienic.

This is the same principle. No, I don't agree they should be subsidised by the tax payer.

Sure, as long as toilet paper is free. I didn't choose to have to poo. It happens regardless of whether I decide I want to or not. Why shouldn't toilet paper be free?

I don't think they should be free for everyone. I just think it should be like how there are ways, for people who can't afford it, to get free food
Women's sanitary products should probably be taxless. Also the giving away condoms is more of a health/ preventing young pregnancies thing tbh.
As I posted on Anonymous I can't edit the title so, if possible, could a mod please change "Women" to "People"?

No I don't think tampons should be free. I'm not asking for free toilet paper either. If you want a tampon, pay for it. Don't make the taxpayer pay for it.

Never meant to imply that, but the OP mentioned that condoms are freee and I just mentioned that I don't think they should be free either
It should be free, but people have to get pads / tampons, so they will buy them. People don't have to wear condoms, so if they are expensive etc some people just will not buy them. Also giving out free condoms will help out the NHS. Less STI/STD's for them to deal with. Handing out pads and tampons will not.

Oh really? I meant 3 days of pain but the actual period lasts 4/5. Is all your 7 days painful? I wouldn't be able to live with 3 more days of pain!
Nope, waste of taxpayers money. Socialists often don't understand that when something gets given to them for free, it doesn't just come out of thin air- someone is paying for it, and that someone is called the taxpayer.
