HND or UNIVERSITY

I am currently taking my last year in BTEC level 3 travel and tourism. However I cannot decide whether taking HND or going to university is the better option. Im worried that I will find myself unable to cope if I go to university. I'm just wondering, if I take HND, will I get the same qualifications as I would in uni, or will I have to take a top-up year?

Yes, but the top up degrees will be limited whereas if you go to uni, then you can pick from a wider range of specialist Travel and tourism degrees (if thats your subject) and you get to spend 3 years there. If you like it at college and dont fancy uni then stay there. Some HNDs are at Uni.

Just think about student life (one of the plusses), but also living away from home. It works for most people but not tor others. If you do HND + Top up its still a degree although the experience might not be the same.

If I take HND, is it essential to take the top up degree after 2 years or is it alright not to take it?

You can take it when you want. I think a degree is more marketable, but maybe have a look at job markets and see which ones will be ok with a HND?

If you were to complete a HND you would come out with a level 5 qualification, if you were to complete a 3 year bachelors degree you would come out with a level 6 qualification. A degree is therefore a higher level of qualification.

You can choose to top up your HND to a bachelor degree by doing a a top up year, however you don't have to do this if you do not want to. Like @999tigger said, I would have a look at jobs/careers you are interested in to see whether they require a degree, or whether they take people on with HND's.

I would recommend visiting some Open Days to get a feel of what universities are like. It might help you make a decision as to whether university is the right choice for you.
