Yes I am (I wanted to do Aerospace actually back when I was in A-levels but how things have changed ....I'm now about to embark on an MSc in Subsea Engineering/Offshore Engineering).

And it depends really they are a lot of factors but jobs are very competitive nowadays. I only just rejected a job offer for £25k + international travel and that's with me only having a BEng.

Yeah, I guess that's the time you really need to decide what you want to study at university. What A-Levels did you do if you don't mind me asking and what university did you go to?

Damn, that's a good offer. Thought they usually made them kind of offers if you had a MEng. Your MSc sounds exciting! Have you decided where you are going to study that?

For your BEng Aeronautical Engineering your offer is AAB and for MEng it's A*AA. Why is MEng that much higher than BEng? Typically it's only a grade higher to get into MEng.

Hi Black Water

A few of our MEng have a bit of a jump (more than one grade) - I honestly don't know why.
However - it's worth noting that if you do well on the BEng at the end of Semester 1 in Year 2 if your results are 55% or above - you'll be invited to join the MEng course. So if you're worried about the A*AA - it is another way in to apply for the BEng and then work really hard when you're here.

Does that make sense?

University of Sussex.

I only had 2 A-levels back in my time, Maths and Physics + an AS in Computing and Further Maths. So I had to do a engineering foundation year before embarking on an actual engineering degree. I chose not to stay for MEng since I wanted to specialise in marine subsea systems/offshore engineering. I did some modules in my third year that really sparked my interest in this kind of thing + my research internship in the states also added to the interest.

It's between Newcastle and Aberdeen! Haven't decided which one I'll go to it's a hard decision because they are the best two universities in the UK that specialise in that area of engineering and have courses designed by industrial partners.

Oh right. Good thing that you did a BEng then. How come you didn't take AS Further Maths or Computing to A2-Level?

Yeah both of them are really good universities. What will your year of entry be? Are you planning on studying it in 2018?

Ohh. You still made it though.

Nice. Straight to work after that?
I'm doing Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I might drop Biology though because I don't really need it and I don't really like it.

Yes, I would like to go abroad if I can. I'll see though!

Best of luck in your A-levels! I hope you do choose to study engineering at university. It's a rewarding career

Hmm...move to a more luxurious place.
Thanks, I'll see what happens later on in the year to see what I'll actually decide to study at university.

Hi Omzie

We don't do aerospace engineering here - we do aeronautical engineering. What is it you wanted to know? What it's like in general or something more specific?

Vicky

Can you give me a review of the aeronautical engineering department at loughborough in general?

Hi Omzie

I'm probably not the best placed person to give a review to be honest - however, I can give you a few stats and some links that will be worth looking at.

Aero Auto Engineering has a really good employability rate because we have really close links with employers (Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, Airbus, British Airways, Marshall Aerospace etc on the aero side)

We're number 1 for salaried industrial placements with the world's top companies

It's possible to secure a job from your placement year - some students even sponsorship for the rest of their studies from the companies they've done their placement year with

We've got some amazing facilities - have a look here http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/aae/undergraduate/student-facilities/

There are a couple of clubs that you might be interested in - look here: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/aae/undergraduate/clubs-and-activities/

The Aero course is accredited by both the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The course is one of three preferred suppliers to BAE Systems

There's a pretty good list of FAQs here that might be worth a read through http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/aae/undergraduate/faqs/

Hope this helps a bit - gives you a bit of reading anyway for a bit of background on the department!
Vicky
