Year 12s: what will be the first way you research your future options? >>

Hi!

I’m currently in year 12 and at the end of year 13 i should have done AS Sociology, A2 Biology and OCR Double Health and Social Care.

I’m considering being a nurse but i’m not sure if I’d like the job. I’m having a work experience opportunity at Teesside University in March, but my location is more isolate so I cannot get as much experience as those i’m competing against who will live in broader areas.

Is it a normal thing to do a Degree in something for one year FT, such as Health Studies, and to then go on to do a degree in Nursing somewhere else? I like the sound of that option but it probably costs way too much money.

I’m indecisive about wanting to do Nursing, specialising in Paediatrics, but I’m not sure what I would want to study instead, and what jobs it would lead me into that i might enjoy.

I like learning about health, the body, disease and control of disease, people, and I love helping others. Does anyone have any job/course ideas?

Getting work experience is the best way to work out what you want to to. Nursing is a good option but you have loads of options in healthcare and science. No one can pick a job or course for you. Doing another course first is a longer and more expensive way of getting into nursing and may limit how much funding you have available.
