Medical officer deployment differences between services?

I am an aspiring medical student and am researching the various cadetship/bursary options available.

I was mainly interested in the different types of deployments in each service, both as a GDMO and later on:

- how long are they?
- how frequent?
- how often can you contact loved ones back home?

I understand the answer to all of these questions will likely be 'depends'...but any and all guidance would be much appreciated

They won't be very different between the Services, personnel get sick and need medical cover at the same rate regardless of Service, and many/most medical services are tri-service when deployed.

The frequency depends on how many wars we are fighting! But also how many overseas units eg Cyprus, Falklands etc.

The duration varies, usually dependent on the 'comfort' of the deployment, grim places will be 3 months or 6 months, cushy places may be a year.

You can usually contact loved ones as much as you like, internet is put in place pdq nowadays. Unless you are in the back of beyond or it's operational, your own phone will work etc. You no longer have to send a telegram!

If you are only at the bursary hunting stage, everything will have changed by the time you are in and ready to be deployed anyway.
