Do you get given T=2π sqrt(m/k) in your formula sheet?

Unfortunately no.

These are all the SHM/wave related equations we get. At least the ones we've used.

Maybe work out spring constant using f=kx and f=mg.

Are u familiar with the formula joinedup used? Is it a formula u know but is not on formula sheet?

Also remember the restoring force is equal to kx.

So ma=-kx as the restoring force acts in opposite direction to displacement.

So a=-(kx)/m and a=-w^2x we can equate these to eliminate x and find expressions for the frequency and time period of an oscillating mass spring system.

But where can I obtain k?

When the spring is in equilibrium the force on the spring is equal and opposite to its weight so kx=mg when the mass spring system is in equilibrium.

I see. Makes total sense to me now. Thanks.
