Migraine relief?

Hi, I suffer from migraines on roughly a weekly basis. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I can not identify a trigger so I am still looking at relief methods. Pain killers just don’t work whether they are over the counter or prescribed. Does anyone have any tips they use to help relief a painful migraine? Usually sitting in a dark room helps but only to a certain extent.
Thank you.

. My mum had the same thing and fixed it with a specific ear piercing on the inside of her ear. You can read on other peoples experience with it on the ear

There's stuff you can take everyday to prevent them.

Vicks sometimes helps.

My bf used to have pretty regular migraines. He saw and osteopath for something else and ended up getting some acupuncture for the migraines. Has only had like on or two in like a year or so since.
Apparently migraines can be caused my a nerve or something in the back of your neck/ head. Dunno about the logic behind it, but it certainly seemed o work for my bf at least.
I've also heard that CBD oil can help. Dunno if that's something you'd want to try too.

I’ve read a few things about these piercings, I’ve just never met someone who’s actually had it done!

I’d love to try acupuncture, heard some really positive things about it! I’ll look into it.
I have migraines and take b12 vitamins to try and prevent them  I think it's worth trying! I've been taking them for about 2 years and I think they have helped. I used to get them every 3 weeks then didnt have one for 7 months! But not sure of what triggers mine but I definitely think they also help reduce the symptoms when I get them now

I began taking multivitamins a couple of weeks ago that have b12 in them I’m sure, I’ll double check and if not I might give it a go

Where do I start! There are so many things on the market for prophylaxis and treatment.
Your GP can prescribe things like nortriltyine, amitriptyline, sodium valproate, candesartan, beta blockers, and, rarely (usually by a specialist) calcium channel blockers. These are all things that you take every day to prevent migraines.

In terms of treatment during a migraine, the most common is one of the triptans, sumatriptan is available over the counter but on prescription there are alternatives like rizatriptan, zolmitriptan and eletriptan. There are different methods of administration, nasal spray, injection, traditional tablet form and lyophilisates.

There are also things like tolfenamic acid and ergotamine but these aren’t often prescribed.

Under the care of a headache specialist neurologist you can have nerve block injections which are pretty effective, and some neurologists (Professor Peter Goadsy and Dr Mark Weatherall to name a couple) can administer Botox injections to prevent migraines.

Perhaps you could try some glasses to remove blue light because that can trigger migraines.

Let me know if you have any questions!
I take topamax twice a day and it's really reduced the frequency of my migraines. Also take sumatriptan when I have one and it helps get rid of it. Paracetamol and ibuprofen do **** all.

Coffee can help too.

You really need to identify your triggers.

Keep a diary.

Relief methods Sumatriptan if your GP will let you have them. Immigran and the like.

You tend to get used to knowing if an attack is likely 12-24 hours before, so thats when to take your normal painkillers and that can avert one from developing.

There is a small window where I can also prevent one if I have a cold shower.

Btw trigger factors vary for the individual and what helps for someone can make it worse for someone else.

Indeed. There's a myth that cheese and chocolate can make them worse. But in some people they do. For me, it's things like too much noise or light. (I'm also severely photophobic)

I take Topamax once a day. I did take it at night too; but I can't sleep if I take it after 7pm. I've just switched from imigram (because I keep getting sinus infections) to maxalt as a preventative. I've also taken amitriptyline, nortriptyline, pregabalin and gabapentin.

I've also found that my period is a trigger.
