Additional information for MEDICINE?

I just received an email from St John's saying I can attach any additional documents to strengthen my application. I'm applying for medicine however so I am not sure as to what counts as relevant. I have referenced an essay, should I attach that? I have also talked about my art. Should I attach a few pictures of my sketchbook?

No idea what exactly John’s wants, but one thing for sure is they’d (= Cambridge) only be interested in something relevant to a subject you’re applying for. So if you’re applying for Medicine, Art won’t be of their interest and it won’t strengthen your application.

Fair enough. What if the art is about medicine though?

Is it a serious question?
Do you really think your ability for painting or drawing (or whatever in your sketchbook) will prove your ability to be a good medic?

At this point I'm just looking for something that may help me stand out, even if it isn't entirely relevant. So when they get to deciding whether I get a place, they think "oh that's the guy with the talent for art". Besides, even if it gets ignored, it cant hurt my chances right?

I believe this will show that you are an all rounder and is not limited only to academics. Btw are you an overseas student or a UK resident?

Also worth pointing out that the medical profession is very keen on "outside interests" these days, as part of de-stressing, promoting a healthy work-life balance etc.

Now, I'm not sure if the same can be said about Cambridge medicine admissions, but it would be a mistake in general for people to think that medicine positions only ever care about stuff directly related to medicine.

Hobbies, outside interests etc, do matter somewhat. I'm personally a bit unsure if that's actually a good thing or not, but it is undeniably the case. Application forms and interviews at specialist trainee level can ask about interests outside medicine, for example.
