Grime VS Rap

Which do you prefer, English Grime or American Rap?

And don't be a cheeky ******* and say "neither" or "both". Also if you don't say Grime you might want to check yourself into a mental asylum.... :smug:

Okay sure... Grime is a lot more real, easier to understand. Although it's a lot less funded it still manages to produce some tect beats/songs.
lol.

Hip-Hop is much better, for a large number of reasons.

I prefer old-school hiphop. Meaningful lyrics, good beat. Like in both genres you find bad and good artists. I mean, in my view, there's more talented American Rap Artist's than Grime (perhaps cos it's more established?)

Good for you.. Actually "about 10 years ago" grime was pioneered and the origins of grime have nothing to do with US rap so how could they have sounded similar??? Ugh.

Anyway grime is becoming US rap all the way. Doesn't sound jack **** like the real stuff anymore. just sounds like southern US radio rap. Real grime has fast delivery and drum and bass sound, which is very British and afro Caribbean... Nowadays everyone is rapping like lil Wayne aka like they're on cough syrup with wack trap beats. 😷 I'm not gonna argue facts. Don't quote me.

How old are you?
Started off liking American rap more, then got into grime more and they were even. Now grime is wayyy better. You like it the more you listen to it.

No.

Grime was pioneered more like 15-16 years ago. 10 years ago it had already merged with Hip-Hop.

Etc

and the origins of grime have nothing to do with US rap so how could they have sounded similar??? Ugh.

The origins of Grime have a lot to do with US Hip-Hop. That's why they were dressing like them and spitting in American accents to start off with (and by that I mean, the transition from Garage to Grime, just go and check a few So Solid or PAYG tracks for proof of this).

Here is an interview with Dizzee Rascal where he talks about how he made Boy In Da Corner (the first landmark Grime record) and mentions several US Hip-Hop artists and tracks as inspirations for the music - http://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2016/05/track-by-track-dizzee-rascal-s-boy-in-da-corner

And the actual structure of it was trying to emulate Is That Your Chick? and What’s Your Fantasy? those boy-girl call-and-response tracks that came out around the same time.

With “Wot U On,” I had this thing for putting girls on tracks, and making it sound rude girl-ish, but catchy. I should do that some more. I think that was because of Three Six Mafia, because I was really into them.

Same as how “I Luv U” was based on “What’s Your Fantasy?” I wrote this to Foxy Brown and Blackstreet Get You Home playing in the background.

Etc.

Anyway grime is becoming US rap all the way. Doesn't sound jack **** like the real stuff anymore. just sounds like southern US radio rap.

As I've tried to point out, this had already happened about ten years ago. It's not a new thing like you are trying to say it is. Actually I would argue that since about 2012 there has been an resurgence with several young artists attempting to bring back the authentic sound, the artists themselves have been aware of the merge with Hip-Hop for a long time.

Real grime has fast delivery and drum and bass sound, which is very British and afro Caribbean... Nowadays everyone is rapping like lil Wayne aka like they're on cough syrup with wack trap beats. 😷 I'm not gonna argue facts. Don't quote me.

I will quote you as much as I like.

Grime is developed from Garage music with large influences from both Jungle and US Hip-Hop.
