Which university is the best for teaching PGCE?

I checked many reviews and compared both uni's, as well as thinking to myself where I'd be more comfortable... Well, I finally got my answer Huddersfield it is! Both uni's have their strengths & weaknesses but from what I've researched (university rankings on the guardian, complete university guide, the Times), hearing from others and seeing student reviews and comparisons for Education as a subject Huddersfield is the better option. But Huddersfield beats it in that!

Plus, thinking about it carefully I found that I would be more comfortable in Huddersfield - I felt safe. Clearly shows I'm not much of a fan of a huge place.

Please do correct me if any of this information is wrong. I have no intentions of making Sheffield Hallam look bad - it is a good university. I know many people who have gone there & loved it! But, for me Huddersfield would be the best option.

Hi!🙋 unfortunately due to personal circumstances I had to decline the offer so currently on a gap year and hopefully going to be re applying for 2018.

Firstly, during the interview day... I was in a group of 6-10 people all planning to do the PGCE but a variety of subjects. We were told to prepare a small presentation as in just think about what you’ve done at placement etc and talk about it.

After that moved on to group discussion (I was really nervous about this as I dread public speaking and all) regardless of that I felt comfortable and managed to discuss and debate about the points given. For this a piece of advice - do contribute; don’t talk too much or be too quiet (keep a track of the TES website to find out about the recent things about Teaching/Education).

We were given an outline about the PGCE course and all the necessary stuff, following that taken to another room where I was the only one to sit an actual GCSE exam paper related to my subject. Was called into the interview room where my course leader was - she asked a few questions related to placement/experience and then present a mini lesson which you must have planned alongside a written task which was completed prior to the interview during the session.

I’m not sure about Leeds Trinity’s process but it should be very much similar.

And that was it really! 😅 I was extremely worried when I got home thinking I’ve done awful. But, the next day I got an email stating they’ve offered me a place. If only things went smoothly I would’ve been on my PGCE right now.

Anyways, I hope my tips were useful and helpful. Wishing you all the very best for your PGCE interview - as I know Leeds Trinity is ranked at top for its ITT courses. And you must definitely be confident if you’ve applied there as I find any big city Leeds to be a scary place ha ha.
