a level maths

the equation of a curve is y=(X+1)(x-3)

write the equation of the curve in the form y=ax^4+bx^3+cx^2+dx+e

the top equation is quadratic but the second equation is quartic form. is it integration, not sure any help is appreciated.
Are you sure that there's no exponent on either (or both) the x+1 or x-3 term?

Either there is a mistake in the question or it can only mean "expand the brackets" and that both a and b are 0

Well given what you've put you would have to say that a and b are both 0 but that's seems weird to ask a question like that.

yeah, I suspect that it's an error if that's the question as printed.
