history, Help!!!!

i need help, i keep on getting Ds in history, I need help
what do you need help with??

So Im doing Tudors and america and dont understand those PEEL
paragraph. My teacher keeps on talking about them but I just dont get wwhat she means, she says that for my intro, i need to define my question, use criteria and and a judgement but i just dont get it.

the introductions
Delete your history to remove the 'd's.
well usually when i start a peel paragraph i just use a very simple, to the point introduction. For example, i’m studying Henry VIII right now and my question was “do you think that Wolsey’s greatest success was field of cloth of gold?” and my introduction was simply “i disagree that wolsey’s greatest success was the field of cloth of gold, as he has achieved far more successful events, such as the treaty of bruges or the treaty of london”. so basically i just take the question and put it into my answer, and then build off it. i can’t confirm that this is the right thing to do, but i usually get full marks so i assume it is. i’m not sure if this was actually helpful but i hope it helps a bit, good luck :smile:

PEEL:

Point - Make your statement.
Evidence - Include whatever useful case studies or figures or historical opinions support the point you’ve just made.
Explain - Evaluate your point. Refer back to your original essay question, and evaluate things like the validity or usefulness.

Stick to this structure for each paragraph, alongside a strong intro and conclusion mixed with specialist language, and you’ve met the criteria the examiners are looking for.

I’m afraid I don’t know what the L stands for. Perhaps Link, as in link back to the original essay title?

I was getting Es right up until the exams, and ended up with a high A. Anything specific you need help with? I was on OCR, so I have specific tricks for that exam board.

Introductions are probably one of the hardest things to construct at first when starting the history.
People make the mistake of having a long paragraph for an introduction, where it just needs to be about 3 lines showing your clear judgement.

So for example,
''The foreign policy of Henry VIII failed to achieve its objectives in the years 1509 to 1547.''

Henry VIII had a series of different aims for his foreign policy such as breaking from Rome which he achieved but ultimately he failed to achieve the majority of objectives during these years, for instance ...... (then give an example of whether you said it was a success/failure etc)
